Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.

1 in 4 say Jesus is coming back. Part of me REALLY hopes they’re right, and part of me hopes he will tarry so we can do what Matthew 28 says to do even longer!

Unfortunately, much of what Christians base this belief on is all the warnings of ‘imminence’ (not to be confused with immanence) in NT apocalyptic writings.  Personally, I think these are best understood at face value: they were imminent for the early believers.  Many (not all) of Jesus’ and Paul’s predictions were fulfilled with the Jewish war of 66-70 and the destruction of Jerusalem in 70AD.

Regardless of one’s eschatology (and even though I wish evangelicals would wisen up and forsake cheap “Left Behind” eschatology), the emphasis on making disciples above is spot on.

      My two cents.

After doing extensive research on the return of Christ and the book of Revelation by reading the entire left behind series and watching the videos I have come to the following conclusions.  50% of all statistics are wrong, Jesus will come back and my series, “right behind” never did get off the ground.

Peter, Thank you for quoting Homer Simpson.  It puts something like this in perspective.
