    Are You a BAD Pastor?

We’re not completely bad. I’m not anyway. There are bright spots…

What are the bright spots?  You’ll have to go over to the Faith 2.0 website to read the rest of John’s thoughts. After you’re done… please come back here, and leave a comment:

Are YOU a bad pastor?  If so… what are YOU bad at?  (You can leave an anonymous comment if you like)…

Here's an interesting post over at the Faith 2.0 blog. John Alan Turner writes, "I don’t necessarily mean that I am bad at my job. That may be debated. There are things I do quite well. There are other things I do very poorly. And then there are things I do not do at all. But, in the end, I do not really seem to be what people expect or necessarily want in a pastor.

I am a bad pastor, and the only comfort I can find is that this post will be read by other bad pastors. Some of them will have the courage to admit it. Some of them will not. We are all bad pastors to varying degrees. We all think bad things and do bad things and say bad things (usually under our breath or just after we’ve closed the car door and are driving away)...

John says, “I do not really seem to be what people expect or necessarily want in a pastor.”  Maybe that’s the problem—that he and other bad pastors—aren’t fulfilling the expectations of others.  There is a difference between really being bad and just not being what others expect you to be.  Although not a pastor, I have found that I have to focus on who God says that I am and focus on being what HE wants me to be.  Otherwise, you can drive yourself crazy trying to fill the expectations of people.  And we’re not perfect people, but guess what, God accepts us anyway!  PTL!  One of the good books that I read as I was going through a dark period was Henri Nouwen’s “The Wounded Healer’, and I highly recommend it to any church leader who is hurting and feeling bad about themselves.
