What would you read to really hone in on some great leadership skills? Well... Bill Hybels has just released his list of top leadership books for the year... take a look. Which ones have you read? And which book would you say has been the most helpful to you in the past year. (Besides, The Bible, of course!)

I’ve read 20 of the books, mostly on Bill’s recommendations from previous years. I’ve found some more interesting that others. One I would particularly recommend is Integrity by Henry Cloud. It is the most useful exposition on the subject of integrity that I have ever read. I used to think that integrity goes without saying, and you either have it or you don’t. However, Henry Cloud shows us that there is a whole lot more to it than that. It’s a ‘business’ book rather than a “Christian” book, but it is provides a very useful framework for examining any context of your life.

One thing that really strikes me is all the different names of authors….. That is one way to really seek & strive to have balance in leadership imo…

Am I the only one alarmed that a prominent pastor’s long list of must-read leadership includes very few books that deal with spiritual leadership and a Biblical approach?

Don’t misunderstand me.  I’m not anti-Bill and in fact have his leadership book.  Nor am I against reading any secular leadership book (there are many in my library).  But I have a BIG problem with the trend (Bill is just an example, I believe) of Christian spiritual leaders who are actively seeking wisdom and influence from worldly sources than the Bible and/or the Church.

      Nehemia

      Joshua

      Transforming Leadership, Leighton Ford

The Training of the Twelve, A.B. Bruce

Brothers, We Are Not Professional, John Piper

      Firestorm, Ron Susek

      Excellence in Leadership, John White

      Lectures To My Students, Spurgeon

      Foxes Book of Martyrs

      Historical Drift, Arnold L. Cook

The Book of Leadership, John MacArthur (whatever you think of him personally, excellent book)

      etc.

      Just to name a few.
