Brady Boyd:  Things are Looking Up at New Life

    Bookmark and Share

“When a church goes through something like this and a new pastor comes in and they watch him for awhile,” he said.  “If he seems trustworthy, their money is an indicator of their trust.”

New Life laid off more than 40 people in 2006.  Boyd says they added about 7 in 2007, and plan to hire even more in 2008.

It's been a troubling and tragic 16 months for the largest church in Colorado Springs, but now attendance and cash are back up. New Life Church released its financial statement for 2007. It shows a 1.4 million dollar cash balance for the year, an increase of $800,000 from 2006. Senior Pastor Brady Boyd also says attendance is up 1500 and giving is up 15 percent.

And we all know that these are the signs of a church being successful don’t we? http://www.mondaymorninginsight.com/images/smileys/wink.gif

And we all know that comments like that are signs of jealousy don’t we?

OK Malcolm, I’ll bite.  Jealous of what? Big budgets? I’ve raised them and stewarded them.  Big audiences, our church had a good size audience every Sunday.

Your superficial comment didn’t get the gist of what I was trying to convey.  We are enamored with bricks, bodies and bucks.  We use those critera to define “success” in the church.  In the meantime we often overlook or don’t discern things like sin at the highest levels of our church organizations.

I would have liked this post to say something akin to, “souls are accepting Christ, baptisms are constantly being scheduled, more people signed up to serve at the local soup kitchen or for a short term missions trip than at any other time in the past 16 months.

More people are attending prayer meetings and ten new groups have started for the express purpose of helping widows, orphans, and single parents. etc.”

But what do we get when asked about how things are going in our church?  Our attendance has increased and our offerings are larger.

      Yeah, I’m jealous.  Right.
