    Church:  Jesus does not care

    Church:  Jesus does not care

Another day, another church marketing campaign.  This one, by a church in Mansfield, includes a sign that simply says JesusDoesntCare.com.  It seems that even if Jesus doesn't care... some people in the community do; and they're not taking too kindly to the churches newest sign campaign.

According to the pastor:  “We created something quite compelling, didn't we?”

Here's the video from the local NBC affiliate:

I'm thinking of starting a new business... ordering domain names that would be great for this kind of marketing campaigns, then selling them to churches.  Whatdaya think?

Any suggestions for domain names I should snatch up?

    Maybe something like:

    JesusThinksYoureUgly.com

    BoycottHell.com

    IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowItComeToChurch.com

By the way Chris F. I enjoy your comments. I see North American ‘Church’, especially in the ‘Mega’ realm as slick covered magizines that make every effort to use the same format. Growth is a deceptive evidence of Spirit work if it is the main measure. Fruitful (Gal 5) spiritual lives is a more accurate measure. Jesus is not a product that needs a Hollywood presentation. God’s word is the only thing that I know that is ‘living’ and ‘active’. Entertainment and comfort distract people from the real power of God’s Church, the power to change lives, to give peace unlike that of the world and to be an agent of spiritual and physical healing in Jesus’ name.

      Steve,

      No, I don’t.

Do you want to ask the guy who does run this site if he’s agreed with my comments and sentiment on this thread? Hint: He’s the guy named Todd who said “Amen” a little bit ago on this discussion…

For the record, I love opinions that don’t echo mine.

I just am not as much a fan as one-sided manipulations where any topic you can imagine is twisted to somebody’s preconceived agenda. It gets old, and it’s not helpful to Christian leaders trying to do relevant ministry in the 21st century (which is what this site was designed for).

There are plenty of sites DEVOTED to slamming and even undermining mega-churches these days. They are always chock-full of great “information”. Check them out!

      Blessings,
      Peter

      Pete,
I have attended a megachurch. In fact I was part of a group that started one. I am not a novice on this subject. You feel that another man’s accolade validates your comments (and I must admit that I enjoy Todd’s blog) but a careful reading of my first comment connects unscriptural offices and authorities with ‘gizmo’ church. In the first few weeks of the early church it grew by the thousands because the living word is active and powerful. There were no loud guitars and flashy video clips. There was love, a sense of community and no ‘lording over’.I want to see that again…in my lifetime…and I fear that guys like you who are personally invested in the party line will continue to argue for tradition over scripture. I suspect that our comments are unpalatable to you because you like the way people perceive you, and Amos, myself and many others are suggesting that there is something scripturally wrong with that. I think deep down you hope and beleive the Word is living and active and full of the same early potential but the unmistakeable reason why Godly living is on the decline in the US of A is because the Spirit is being replaced by our way of doing business in the church. In my opinion your aggravation with these comments signals somewhat of a lack of reverence for scripture. I don’t want to speak for Amos and others but for myself I think we don’t have latitude with God’s instruction regarding church governance. I draw this from the Old Testament where God told Moses to make sure that the spiritual center of the nation of Israel (the tabernacle) was made exactly (not mostly)as God had instructed. How can you say that Amos is off track bringing a subject like the title and authority of Pastor into the greater discussion of why church is gimmicky in North America? Are you saying that the gimmick part has no connection to the traditions of man that have been attached to the modern church? Consider what a huge problem ‘Pastor failure’ is in the church. These guys fail because in the non-biblical role they play they are vulnerable to the evil one. A repeat item in failure is that the fallen pastor had no one that they could talk to or confide in. If they were part of the Eldership with no special powers of their own they would be safer. Saul 80%‘ed God on the issue of the Amalekites and he lost his kingdom for it. The modern church is 80%‘ing God in the area of church governance. Many congregations have church boards and congregational votes, things that there is no example of in scripture. Congregational votes make winners and losers in the local body. God clearly wanted church to be overseen by a spiritually minded, wise, reputationally sound GROUP of older in the faith guys who in the Spirit could work by consensus and not some youngster just out of Bible College with the title of Pastor (Acts 15 model). I could lay out all of the scripture that supports this but you could too….if you could bring yourself to examine the issue. I think I would feel good if Todd praised me a bit too but then I would remember that Todd is Todd and… well.. God is God. If Amos is of a pure heart He speaks his heart because he wants God’s approval. I sincerely hope that your comments come from this same motive.

      Steve,

Thanks for the thoughts, I don’t think you know as much about what I believe and think as you think you do.

      Blessings,
      Peter

Yes - The Emperor has no clothes. wink

Funny thing, even after the common folks realized It was a hoax…

Only those who were competent and wise could see this wonderful garment,
And since Nothing was there to see…
they were all guilty of acting like it was Real (and deceiving others.)
so no one would think They were NOT competent and wise.

When the common folks realized It was a hoax, a joke played on them,
it took **a child** to yell - The Emperor has no clothes.
they laughed - not just at the king - but at themselves.

They knew they were all being actors, hypocrites, deceitful,
to protect their Reputation in the community.

But - the Emperor - He continued on after hearing the Truth
      with two servants following him.

Hmmm? Servants at the rear, of an Emperor with no clothes,
carrying the train of the garment - that wasnt really there.

That was me at one time - Serving Emperors with no clothes.

Not any more - Thank you Jesus…

Think Ill stick with serving Jesus.

      Gal 1:10
For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men?
for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the **servant of Christ.**

Im returning to the shepherd and Bishop of my soul. Jesus…

I appreciate your comments and insights.

      You write…
In the first few weeks of the early church **it grew** by the thousands **because the living word** is active and powerful. There were no loud guitars and flashy video clips. There was love, a sense of community and **no lording over.**
(Lot’s of “lording over” and “exercising authority” today)
I want to see that againin my lifetimeand I fear that guys like you who are personally invested in the party line will continue to argue for **tradition over scripture.**

Yes - Its Tradition of men over Scripture.
Yes - I to desire to see that… in my life time…

Mere fallible humans, with a living Christ within, coming together in love. grin

Where everyone can participate, where everyone is expected to participate. grin

      1 Cor 14:26
How is it then, brethren? when ye come together,
**every one of you** hath a psalm, hath a doctrine,
hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation.
Let all things be done unto edifying.

Where everyone has a teaching and a revelation from Jesus.
That’s the Best. Everyone participating grin

NOT just a special few - a clergy class - who have a Title and Position
Pastor/Reverend/Leader NOT found in scripture. :-(

The - Pastors - in Pulpits - Preaching - to People - in Pews - model doesnt work. :-(
It silences the believers, the body of Christ, the Church, Jesus.

Is that how Jesus taught His Disciples?

NO - He took them into the streets. And taught them…

      John 5:19
...The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do:
for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

      John 20:21
....as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

      Luke 10:9
And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them,
The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.

      Mat 10:7-8
And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils:
freely ye have received, freely give.

Now that is Jesus, and His Disciples doing what God instructs them to.

      Deuteronomy 4:36
Out of heaven he made thee to **hear His voice,**
      that he might instruct thee…

Trust and obey - NOT think and decide…

And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold:
      them also I must bring, and they shall hear My voice;
and there shall be ONE fold, and ONE shepherd.
      John 10:16

One Fold One Shepherd One Voice.

      Peter

We seem to be in agreement - a lot. wink

      You write…
I love opinions that dont echo mine.

Thank you for loving my opinions that dont echo yours.

I knew you were being loving when you called me a Troll. wink

      You also write…
its not helpful to Christian leaders trying to do **relevant ministry**
in the 21st century (which is what this site was designed for).

      Hmmm? NOT helpful? What about…

      Pro 27:17
Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his **friend.**

      Pro 27:6
Faithful are the wounds of a **friend;** but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

      Rom 15:14
...able also to admonish (warn) one another.

      2 Thes 3:15
Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish (warn) him as a brother.

Hmmm? **relevant ministry** in the 21st century? I like that idea, a lot,
Im with you - I believe, what Jesus did, and taught His Disciples
is very **relevant ministry** in the 21st century.

      Gotta love that Jesus.

Hes the same yesterday, today, and forever. (He doesnt change?) Oy Vey!!!

Do you really want to be a Disciple of Christ?
      And make Disciples of Christ?

      Luke 14:33
So likewise, whosoever he be of you that **forsaketh not all** that he hath,
      he cannot be my disciple.

Are you looking for **relevant ministry** in the 21st century?

Have an adventure - forsake ALL that you have - be a Disciple of Christ.

      Then teach others to…
deny themselves pick up there cross daily, and follow Jesus. Mark 8:34.

That should draw in the crowds.

Jesus loves me this I know…
