I like the straight forward talk but take issue with what he says concerning men who never gave Christianity a chance.  True Christianity is not a result of someone giving it a try or a chance.  God saves you or He doesn’t.

I would love to see more churches pursue the Great Commission with reckless abandon.  Too many are concerned with membership numbers they dare not stand on the truth of the Gospel message because they know that it WILL turn some sinners away and after all, that is the purpose. God will use it to break your heart or harden your heart but if the entire counsel of God is preached, it is impossible to ride the fence.

Christ is portrayed in Scripture as compassionate and loving and one who spent time with sinners.  But His message of eternal life through faith and all of His healing purchased Him scorn, suffering and death on a cross.  If we are faithful to do EXACTLY as Christ has done should we expect any less?  Healing Place Church in Baton Rouge is going to have a week long event called Servolution where they are inviting churches around the world to join with them for a week-long commitment of doing “good things” for their communities. It is an event of a grand scale and I know the hearts of the members and staff of HPC to serve the less fortunate. But will they give them what they REALLY need? I hope so because this event will definitely open the door for the preaching of the Gospel.

I believe that most churches, unwittingly, fail to speak the man’s language. Our worship songs are soft and easy, and usually hard to sing. We throw 6-8 songs at a guy each week and expect him to feel good about singing them.

I believe the church should be addressing men at their core and helping them identify with the corporate worship experience. It also helps if the pastor says things like, “Men, this is what this means for you.”

Men’s Fraternity is a great program that has helped us disciple men and help them understand the biblical definition of a man and how God wants them to live.

      Tye:

I agree with your assessment of much of the modern church songs that sound more like romantic lullabies than they do odes to the Almighty.  There are some points in my church’s service where I just can’t sing because it would be against my conscience, and I usually see many men in the congregation similarly shifting about uncomfortably at those moments.

“I believe the church should be addressing men at their core and helping them identify with the corporate worship experience. It also helps if the pastor says things like, “Men, this is what this means for you.””

If we would just preach the Gospel, much of this would be taken care of by itself.

I believe the controversy is not so much in the content but the style.  Is this just an attempt to shock?  It seems sometimes that there are many who are trying to be the most “over the top” in their lastest series or billboards.  There are few who can pull this off succesfully.  I do realize that sometimes a shock is what we need to get the old heart started again, but I don’t think we get style points.  It’s all about the message and when the style gets in the way it’s time to change our style.  This goes both ways, for both ends of the spectrum.  Just as what happened in 1955 may not work in 2005, what happened in 2005 may not work in 2010.

It would seem the statement they are making is quite the contrary.  If they are using this publicly, somebody has got balls!  I like it.  So many churches have nothing to lose.  Churches closing, dying, God bless them for trying something to reach people.

Preaching the gospel is all well and good and we should. However, church is about a lot more things as well. 2 Ti 3:16-17.

I think it is a shame to bore men with church. It should be the most exciting time of the week for them in every respect.

When our music is slow and monotonous I have a tendency to check out. I don’t want to do that. God’s splendor and grandeur are overwhelming and often our churches are underwhelming.

What’s offensive about this video is the low quality of it. I mean, didn’t Mark Driscoll say the same thing about a year ago? There’s nothing controversial about the words… but man, the video is low quality.

I’ll say it:  the title is so “junior high” it’s laughable.  When we have to resort to “shock talk”, something is just plain wrong with the church.  I wish I could have my minute and a half back.

I guess they didn’t have the “balls” to leave the video up on youtube.  The vid has been pulled.
