I Think This Weatherman is Now a Pastor

Have you ever seen anyone preach as badly as this guy weathers?

Nothing against the fine people who read MMI, because I know you're not like this... but have you ever heard a pastor this bad? I would go out on a limb and say, yes, and he was probably a seminary grad. (Coincidently, this is probably how I would rate as a preacher). Hey Perry, can you help this guy out?!

Honestly Todd, I couldn’t even get through the whole thing. Brutal.

That’s got to be a joke. Athens, Ohio, home of Ohio U., my alma mater. Yikes.

So, seminary grads are not effective communicators?  Are pastors who did not attend seminary better communicators?

    4. Ariel on Fri, August 22, 2008

That was definitely brutal but I love how as soon as he finished, the anchors just went on just like nothing had happened.

      Awkward!

I used to have a pastor who always talked about wanting to be a weather man.  After watching this, I think he could do it!

“I would go out on a limb and say, yes, and he was probably a seminary grad.”

Seems the longer I read this blog the more ego I see “emerging”....

I made it through the whole thing.

Kept waiting for him to lead in a benediction or call for the offering.

      Ouch…truly.

And “yes”, David.  Some guys who never went to seminary are way better communicators than guys who did.

Now we know what Moses was doing when God called him.

      Hi Todd,

Kudos to you for using “weathering” as a verb!

poor weatherman - funny at first, then every communicator’s nightmare from then on.

nice finish by the anchor, “Thanks Louis!  I sure with it were warmer….”

When he can’t figure out which side the screen is on reminded me of every time I’ve heard a Pastor say “next slide…go ahead and go to the next slide please.” Thanks for the laugh!

      Pastor Tony -

I would agree with you that some are.  Then again, some are not.  I’ve seen a few guys preach that really ought to resign from their churches, and go to seminary so they can be trained.

The point of my initial response was that over the years there has been too much negativity directed towards seminary grads.  Being one who went to seminary myself, I’ve been amused at those who are cynical towards young people that devote years of their lives to intensive study for preparing themselves to do ministry.

My view is this:  God can use someone who did not go to seminary AND God can use someone who did.

No big deal.  I just wanted to bring a little balance to Todd comparing this weatherman to seminary grads.

Is a real broadcast or a joke?  The beginning of it also seems to be more on a college level than a professional level.

I can’t imagine a weatherman who didn’t understand how to stand in front of the green screen.  However, I must be quick to add that I couldn’t do it, either.

So if this is real, I have a feeling this poor guy was pulled from another department because the real weatherman was sick or on strike!

I, too, went to seminary David Richardson.  Lots of helpful stuff went on there….some, not so much.

I just chose to hear Todd poking fun…no harmful intent whatsoever.

If I may twist a text that I preached yesterday…  “ For both [attending seminary] and [not attending seminary] mean nothing; what matters instead is a new creation.”  Galatians 6:15 (sort of)

      Pastor Tony -

It sounds like you and I are of the same mind on this issue.

I agree that Todd was poking fun, and I agree with you that some things at seminary were not so helpful.

My comments were mostly a general response to the many people I’ve heard over the years who were NOT poking fun when they slammed seminary grads.  I’m sure you and Todd have heard people constantly carry on with their line of “Don’t go to seminary and let them ruin you.”  That’s the sort of thing that I don’t have much patience for.

Anyway, I wish you well in your ministry.  I’m sure God is doing some cool things through you and your church.

      David
