    New Pastor at New Life?

    Bookmark and Share

According to the church, “Brady is an associate senior pastor at Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas. Before coming to Gateway in 2001, Pastor Brady served as the senior pastor of Trinity Fellowship Church in Hereford, Texas. After meeting with him extensively, we believe his heart and vision align closely with the heart and vision of New Life Church. He has strong leadership gifts, significant experience and training in senior pastoral ministry, and a passion for teaching the Scriptures. He is a man of character, proven experience, and good reputation. I am pleased to say that our committee, comprised of men and women of various backgrounds and diverse opinions, has agreed to recommend Brady to be the next senior pastor of New Life Church.”

Pastor Brady Boyd could very well be the new pastor at Ted Haggard's old church. The church has announced that Boyd will candidating for three weeks beginning August 12. A vote will take place then on August 27.

“will candidating for three weeks?” - Three weeks? I’ve heard of two before but three?

Anyone else ever candidate for three weeks? Don’t get me wrong… I think it’s great given the church in question.

I think the purpose of the three-week “trial run” is to give the pastor candidate a real chance to demonstrate his preaching skills before the congregation, and also, time for the congregation to get to know him before they vote on him.  Two weeks is just too short of a season for any of that, but three weeks is pretty good.  I don’t go to New Life personally, but I do know who Brady Boyd is, and I think they’ve made a good choice.

I hope and pray this is the guy for them…

Hmmmm…. having just gone through a transition at our church, it would have been nice to have a trial run.  The way it worked was about a dozen people in the church met the candidate and had dinner with him, he preached once, and then we voted.  Not much to go on, I’d say.  I love the 3 week concept.

I, too, pray that this is the right guy for them.

I am excited about the next stage for New Life. We’ve learned a lot in this interim season, but change is hard (each of us need to change though!) Thank God for His grace.

Yeah, they’re having Pastor Brady preach for 3 consecutive Sunday mornings then those evenings there will be congregation-wide Q&A;times with him.

Much of the church will be having some days of fasting over the next couple weeks, as well as digging into I Corinthians chapters 1-3—very relevant material.

      blessings,

I’ve been thinking about this one. My hubby will one day be in the position to be candidating at a church for pastor. (he is currently in an intern role at our church) While I know this post is originally about New Life…. I think there is real merit to all churches who use the candidating process at all to give real thought and prayer to the length of time in question. Is one weekend merely enough? Three weeks? Of course, I believe that each church body will have to decide that for themselves.

I grew up with my dad being on several pastor search committees. We often times had the “potential man” in our home to stay overnight, for lunch/dinner, or took him to/from the airport upon arrival and departure. He was also then the chairman of the deacons or head of the personnel committee numerous times as well. This reminded me of numerous conversations over those years.

I commend New Life for going what may seem like the extra mile to some. Of course, it goes without saying that many many individuals are praying for this church and this man and his family.
