Outreach and Evangelism Through ‘Niche Marketing’

The point behind 'affinity churches' is " ?When they [people] find somebody that has the same passion that they do, that attracts them,? according to Richard Harris, VP of The North American Mission Board.

Here's the link to the article...

I’m reading Seth Godin’s new book "All Marketers Are Liars" and it has a facsinating part (the part I’m currently reading) about world views and the way ideas spread.  I’ll share more about it (I’m sure) as I continue to read… but it fit in very nicely with a newspaper article just published in the Asheville Citizen Times about how the Southern Baptist Convention is now testing what they are calling ‘affinity churches’...  churches that are narrowly target to certain segments of society.  The article talks about the SBC’s foray into cowboy churches, hippie churches, biker churches, etc…

I do beleive in affinity churches.

I am one hundred percent positive that church members ought have something in common. I think that they should have a common love of the Lord and be subitted to following Jesus.

I heard a preacher talk about a 90 year old minister that walked up to him, he was in his 20’s, and say, “I have heard you are saved” and slipped him 10 dollars.

The 90 year old minister and the 20 year old surfer became good friends. Thier common denominator, thier love for their Lord.

Sometimes it seems that when I am around other Christians, they rather talk about sports, politics, spouses than God. I understand that we talk about other things becasue they do exist. I work so i will tlak about work. i watch sports so I will tlak about sports. That is natural and healthy. However the same thing can be said about reading the Bible or following the Lord. Occasionally He should come up in discussion outside of the sanctuary.
