Rick Warren & Ed Young Introduce Clothing Line at “The Gap”

WarrenyoungPastors Rick Warren of Saddleback Community Church (Lake Forest, CA) and Ed Young of Fellowship Church (Grapevine, TX) have announced a new joint business venture:  a new clothing line to be featured nationally at "The Gap".

"By combining the standard hawaiian shirts made popular by Rick Warren and the hip, culturally relevent style of Ed Young, we think we have a hit," said Gap VP of merchandising Peg Winterhaven.  "We expect inventory to be tight as pastors swarm The Gap to purchase these new designs."  An initial order of 300,000 units has been purchased from suppliers.

Purpose-Driven Life author Rick Warren says he's delighted with the designs.  "You know, it's not about me... but if it was, I'd purchase one of each design just because they're so cool."  Warren says he's giving the proceeds from shirt sales to AIDS relief among alcoholic un-wed mothers off the coast of Uganda.

Pastor Ed Young, pastor of the large Dallas-area mega-church, says the new clothing line will make his life much easier.  "Now when people ask me where I get my shirts, I can tell them 'where to go'".

Not to be outdone by his son, the Rev. Ed Young, Sr., pastor of the huge Second Baptist Church of Houston, said he is in the final stages of closing a deal for his own clothing line with The Men's Warehouse.  Details are pending.

I should have known - it’s still early for me.  And besides, Ed’s shirts aren’t usually that bad. http://www.mondaymorninginsight.com/images/smileys/smile.gif

I love the “quote” by Warren…

      “It’s not about me…”

Each shirt is made from five different colors of fabric, symbolizing the five purposes of the church…

I wonder if they come with flip flops too.

Will those shirts make me look fat?

    11. bishopdave on Fri, March 10, 2006

These shirts will make me look PHAT!!

Bishopdave: No they won’t. I just checked it out dude. They are getting intouch with Don Ho to start a collection that has a tummy tucker in them….

Clair, you may note have noted bishopdave’s intentional use of the word ‘phat’ instead of ‘fat’—read: snowboard lingo for ‘cool’.  But tummy tuckers are a good idea…  http://www.mondaymorninginsight.com/images/smileys/wink.gif

That is very considerate of them to put out a line of clothing that will match anything their wives wear as every color is included in each shirt!

Hey, I think we should cover all the bases here… How about one of those hotly debated “hell sucks” t-shirts underneath a Benny Hinn no-collar shirt left unbuttoned. Gotta have some shorts and flip-flops to complete the look. I hear the Gap has a deal going – buy the whole “Pastor’s Pack” and get a free holster for your Holy Spirit Machine Gun.
