Rick Warren, OJ Simpson, and The Purpose Driven Life

First, here’s more on the OJ Story...

(This is from “The Secret Diary of Rick Warren” a fake-Rick Warren site. Can’t endorse all the sarcasm over there; but some of it is pretty good. For example, here’s a good picture of a protest recently held at Saddleback:)

    Link here.

According to news reports yesterday, Rick Warren has visited OJ Simpson in his prison cell, at least in print. According to the prison; their Religious Services Ministers provided OJ with 2 pairs of reading glasses, a copy of the Bible, and a copy of the Purpose Driven Life. If OJ can get through the first line of PDL, he might have a good chance. (The first line of PDL reads, "It's Not About You."). Actually, this just goes to prove the seven degrees of separation of Rick Warren. Take a look here...

Unfortunately Todd despite the first line of PDL stating It’s not about you! The rest of the book is about how it really is about you finding your purpose to fulfill your desires and your dreams and despite many passionate claims to the contrary, there is no gospel presentation in the book but rather an invitation to repeat a prayer and then comes the inexcusable statement by RW “welcome to the family of God” which would cause one to believe they have peace with God where there is no peace. Justification, salvation, being “born again” that we might believe on the Lord Jesus Christ is a supernatural act upon man by Almighty God, not some intellectual understanding or self-driven “decision” by a man and repetition of a prayer by another, but an act of God that causes the affected, formerly dead in trespasses and sins, to now deny themselves, take up his/her cross daily and follow Him, to obey Him, to persevere in Him not through the efforts of man, not as a man living one foot in the world and one in the church, but by the power of the Holy Spirit working in them that brings them to a place where the world no longer has any value to them.

You’re barking up the wrong tree here, MG. Not going there. (We’ve been there, done that.)

But, yes, it probably wouldn’t been better if the prison chaplain would’ve given OJ a copy of the KJV and John MacArthur’s new book, “Truth Wars”.

The man is going to have so much time to read that there probably should have been many more books than that given.

One of the guys who works here has “Truth Wars” and would GLADLY donate it to O.J. http://www.mondaymorninginsight.com/images/smileys/grin.gif

      Todd,

I love this website. As a pastor, it is one of the first websites I visit every morning.

Thanks for not allowing this post to become another Rick Warren bashing party.

For MG, to say that there is no Gospel presention in PDL is ridiculous. On Page 20, discussing Ephesians 1:11, he states the verse give three insights into your purpose: “ 1) You discover your identity and purpose through a relationship with Christ.” On page 57, he states, God gave you a new life and a new nature when you accepted Christ.” I challenge anyone to find me a “Sinner’s Prayer,” in the Scriptures.” There isn’t one. However the Bible does teach that beginning a relationship with Christ can be as easy as, declaring with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believing in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Get off the Rick Warren bashing train. If we are going to be critical, then why do we allow people like Benny Hinn, Creflo Dollar, Joyce Meyer, Rod Parsley, Larry Huch, Kenneth Hagin, Kenneth Copeland, T.D. Jakes, and many others to continue to spew heretical nonsense without any rebuke from the greater body of Christ? Those of us who are pastors will be held accountable for not standing up against this nonsense being passed off as the Gospel. Sorry for the rant Todd, but two of the most humble and Godly men I have ever met are Rick Warren and Bill Hybels. These men both love Jesus and believe that any purpose in this life comes through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. There are no magic formulas or perfect words each person must say to get in the kingdom, but simply acknowledging you are a sinner and lost without a savior, asking for forgiveness of your sins and surrendering your life to Jesus Christ. What specific words you use is up to you and the leading of the Holy Spirit. I love this site. Keep up the great work Todd!

Ahh yes, OJ is truly blessed to get a copy of PDL, we all know what it did for the woman in Atlanta and her kidnapper. At least after we got past the media storm, to the facts…
