      Katrina,

I think what you meant to say was, “How about, “I LIKE big Butts””  Which would be absolutely HILARIOUS. Even more so than these songs were!

Having been a youth pastor I will agree with the comments about every youth pastor desiring this kind of support from the senior adult croud. I think they should be applauded for their humor and willingness to reach out to youth.

I wish the people in my church would be open to something like this!  BTW, I forwarded this on to my Minister of Music and our Minister of Youth!

If this helped the church and the cause of Christ, more power to ya’.

But, I would NEVER ask the sr. adults in our church to do this.  Absolutely ridiculous.  Our youth wouldn’t have been “more connected” or “inspired”.  They would have been disgusted.

I agree with Michael in that I can’t believe this is a serious discussion and so many people are freaking out over a silly video…

first off- I think you give your youth a little too much credit, Tim. There is not ONE person in my age group (or any age group for that matter) that has seen this video and NOT laughed and thought it was hilarious. Your young people must be pretty different from every teenager I’ve ever met.

second- would you stop calling it a “striptease?” It’s not like they didn’t have clothes on under their robes! Do you seriously think people see that as being sexually suggestive? I guess I’ll have to be careful next time I take off my jacket in front of people.

some of you need to lighten up…

I Like Big Butts… I’d have fallen outta my chair for that!

Simply done in jest, it’s a fun concept. When I first saw it without context, it was strange and awkward… don’t think that I’d would want to have seen it personally… BUT - given what it was and the intention behind it, I’m glad to see that some senior saints are open and fun-loving enough to put themselves aside for a good, hard laugh.

BTW - if you’re griping about the song selection, how do you know about the lyrics and what they say? What have you been listening to on the iPod? (Don’t EVEN start a response with, “I’m just trying to understand what the kids are listening to…”)

Wow. This is a pretty funny conversation. I just want to point out, that I am a heathen that has listened to all of the songs that the Senior Adults sing in this video. To all of you complaining about them glorifying or legitimizing the lyrics of these songs, I would like you to take note that they changed the lyrics on several occasions. For instance, the original lyrics for Don’t Cha Wish Your Girlfriend was Hot Like Me contain the phrase Don’t cha wish your girlfriend was a FREAK like me. Whereas, the choir replaces freak with FUN. So I would hardly say that they are legitimizing patently secular lyrics. In reality, they are trying to make things a bit more innocuous.

Secondly, as a 23 yr old, that co-teaches a Sunday school class of 9th grade boys with a 63 yr old, I say that this is a great way to connect with students. I don’t want to make generalizations, but my co-teacher is almost constantly lamenting his inability to connect with the students due to the generational difference. Sometimes, just “taking them out to eat” doesn’t work. You have to connect with them in their world, before they’ll trust you in your world. Just some food for thought.

Hmmm… I’m really surprised that so many people think this is so innocent. I really doubt that any of these choir members were familiar with these songs in their original form. I doubt they have watched the videos, and I don’t think they know much about the artists. They most likely did this performance solely because they TRUSTED the person who organized and assembled the event. I’m sure that most of them also had absolutely no idea that this was going to be posted on YouTube where it would be viewed by THOUSANDS of complete strangers who had absolutely no connection with the ministry involved. I doubt they wished to be laughed at and seen as foolish by the world at large. I’m no prude, but I don’t think it’s kind to conspire to make fun of elders in this manner. This is pretty embarrassing. It wouldn’t be quite as bad if this was a totally internal production. Putting it out on the net, however, is really a mean thing to do.

The question now is, crying from sadness, or crying cause He’s laughing so hard?  http://www.mondaymorninginsight.com/images/smileys/wink.gif
