Today’s Buzz: 0 to 4,200 in 12 Months; An Apology; Not Guilty; and Spiritual Stagnant Churches

    An Apology...
First of all… today, I’d like to make an apology.  Yesterday in the buzz, I wrongly said that Rev. Ken Silva wrote a piece over at his CRN website about the Robert Schuler “ReThink” conference.  Turns out that it wasn’t indeed Ken that wrote the post; but rather “Editor”, who is someone other than Ken.  My apologies, Ken.  In return for my blunder, Ken managed to get some digs in on me as well.  In typical fashion, Ken (or someone writing for Ken) called my workplace (Leadership Network), ‘a group of seeker sensitive new evangelicals who made sure the slumbering American Christian Church would have the neo-liberal cult of the Emergent Church.’ He also managed to call Schuler and Erwin McManus “sinner-sensitive semi-pelagians”, Rupert Murdoch a ‘christian pornographer’ and Rick Warren the “purpose driven pope”.  Yeah, I remember when I was in third grade.  Again, my apologies.

The Bishop Enters a Not Guilty Plea...
The high profile marital dispute between two area pastors is back in court. Thomas Weeks, charged with punching and kicking televangelist Juanita Bynum, entered a plea Monday.  Watch the news report here. Meanwhile, the soon-to-be ex-wife, Juanita Bynum has a new DVD arriving in stores today… According to Bynum’s publicist Amy Malone, a portion of proceeds for “Unplugged,” which was recorded at a metro Atlanta church, will help to support organizations fighting domestic violence.  “It will be a domestic violence charity, we just don’t know which one yet,” said Malone.  That’s great that a ‘portion’ of the proceeds will go to a yet to be named charity.  I guess.

    Blogger Offers Free Shoes...
At The Missional Heart Tour blog:  “Yep, that’s right I’m letting you pick. Below are the pics of the ones I have narrowed the selection down to. Please pick one and leave a comment. The one with the most comments, I will buy and then have a secret drawing and gift a pair to someone from the winning group, provided more than one person vote. If not, then the one who does get a free pair of Tom’s just like me. “

    Is Your Church Spiritually Stagnant?
If so, John Piper has some good advice...

Church Celebrates One Year Anniversary with 4,200 in Attendance
A year after its grand opening, Christ Fellowship, a church in a former Target store, has hit a bull’s-eye.  Residents of the western communities are flocking to the nondenominational mega-church, spurring leaders to expand ahead of schedule.  The founders predicted about 3,700 people would come to the campus for its three weekend services by the end of its first year. Attendance has surpassed that goal, with about 4,200 each weekend, said the Rev. Todd Mullins, executive pastor.  Read the article here...

    It’s McHammer Time!
    OK… thought this was funny.

glumbert - I’ll Take A McHammer with Fries

Today, I start with an apology. Then move quickly to the church world legal proceedings, throw in some marketing; free shoes; and a church that grew from 0 to 4,200 in just one year. Plus... it's McHammer time!
