The Church Of England Putting Hope in The Simpsons
The Church of England is to suggest youth workers play extracts from The Simpsons cartoon to teenagers as part of its attempt to increase church attendance.  The activities of beer-swilling Homer Simpson and his family will feature in a book, Mixing it Up with the Simpsons, being sent to church youth advisers in every Church of England diocese next month.  The book will urge clergy, or their youth workers, to set up screens in their churches to show extracts from episodes of the hit cartoon that deal with themes such as friendship, self image and temptation.  More here...

Death Row Inmate Wants to Die Laughing
A Texas man scheduled to be executed today wants to die laughing.  Patrick Knight, 39, has been soliciting jokes on the Internet and plans to tell one of them before receiving a lethal injection, Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokeswoman Michelle Lyons said on Monday.  Knight was sentenced to die for the August 1991 murder of his two elderly neighbors in Amarillo, Texas.  “I’ll be enjoying my last days on Earth,” Knight wrote on the Web site. “I’m not asking for pen pals, but I’m asking you to spread the word that I am holding a contest. I want people to send me their best jokes, and to keep me and others with (execution) dates laughing.” It will be interesting who will get the last laugh on this one.  More here.

    Wanted:  Pastor/Comedian
Here’s an interesting job description:  Developing new age church. The idea is to use humor and comedy to bring people to Christ. With the right Pastor we plan on becoming a rapidly growing mega church soon. We have a 5000sf building to start off in and are planning to build a new building as we grow. We have many ideas God has put on our hearts, would like to hear about yours too and see if we feel like a match to grow God’s Kingdom together.  Hmmm… is this for real?  I appears so.  I guess if you’re interested you can apply here.

What Kind of a Church is Yours?  Ruth’s Chris or Golden Corral?
Steven Furtick had an interesting post this week about churches.  Which is yours?

Low-Plunging Necklines in Church:  Not Cool...
The Catholic Church in the Philippines has issued guidelines on what Filipinos should wear to mass in Manila after some parishioners complained about distracting skimpy attire.  “This is to remind people that it would be good to come in appropriate clothing because other people are scandalized,” said Peachy Yamsuan of the archdiocese of Manila on Monday. “It is for the other worshippers who are distracted. You come to the church to pray and if your eyes wander and you see inappropriate clothes, well, it does not add to your spiritual goals.” More here.

Video Ministry Launched By 3’10” Tall Evangelist
I get a ton of press releases every day.  This one, for some reason caught my eye:  The James Croft Evangelistic Association has started a new area of ministry. The organization, headed by 3’10” tall evangelist James Croft of Olustee, Florida, is now producing a video podcast. The podcast is called “Walking with the Giant Videos”.  (I guess everyone needs a niche).  I tried to watch his Paris Hilton at Bible School video but couldn’t get it to load.  The still shot of it brought back a lot of memories of VBS growing up though.  I guess you can check out his website if you like

    Have a great day!

Today's buzz includes some free stuff; a death row inmate who wants to die laughing; a job description for a really funny pastor; the church speaking out about plunging necklines; and a 3' 10" evangelist in the news. Plus, some steak to chew on...

Todd: Maybe it’s on my end.. but things with MMI are weird. Constantly changing. Still only happening here though.

Steven Furtick had some great thoughts with that. Personally? I don’t think of just what we “serve up” at our churches like eating out. I think so much of it describes our walks/journeys. Some individuals want just a steak place because they know what to expect. Others may want to have a buffet because that is more easy to digest. (I’ll stop there)

If we women are in trouble because of men wearing shorts to churches? Well….. I know a few pastors who are going to have to change how they dress. Oh wait…. they’d lose most of their congregation too. Individuals who otherwise wouldn’t be in church if they had to wear a suit and tie or dresses. I think more of the “dress” issue has to do with the condition of the hearts involved. And why they are at church to begin with.

      Just my .05 worth.

And it’s good to remember that the culture in the Philippinnes is not the same as in the U.S.

Women there are still told not to ride bicycles because they will lose their virginity.
