Today’s Buzz:  Quiting Your Job; Hell; Summer Attendance; And How People Find MMI

    Hell, No… You Can’t Go
This from Australia:  The Hell family has protested to a Catholic school in Australia after it objected to enrolling their son because of his name. Officials said the boy had been offered a place at the St. Peter the Apostle school in the southern city of Melbourne after discussions among the principal, the parish priest and the family over his last name. But Alex Hell, 45, said he would rather send 5-year-old Max elsewhere because the school balked at taking the boy because of his family name. Hell said he had Austrian heritage and that the name means “bright.” Hell, a Roman Catholic father of three, said he and his wife initially offered to enroll Max using his mother’s maiden name, Wembridge, but later changed their minds. “It just didn’t sit right,” Hell told The Associated Press on Tuesday.  He said the school withdrew its offer of enrollment for the boy, and only backed down when Hell took his story to the media.

    Before You Quit
Here’s a good article from Crosswalk.com on thinking through some things before you decide to quit.  Read it here.

    Summer Attendance:  Perception vs. Reality
Does your church cut back ministry and programs during the summer?  John Laeger describes his summer ministry philosphy in a great post here.  John says “The tempation is to program and plan around those who will be gone and so we cut back on ministry to the point that those who do come and are here - get something with less energy, less focus, less quality.  I refuse to do that.”

    American Baptists are “Not Collapsing”
When the statement that your denomination is “not collapsing” is actually in the title of an article, it kind of makes you wonder.  Here’s part of the article:  “The American Baptist Churches USA is shutting down its communications department—the latest step in budget cuts and restructuring brought on by declining funds and theological division in the denominational group. Although the ABC national office is experiencing funding losses due to divisions over homosexuality, the venerable denominational group, based in Valley Forge, Pa. is not collapsing, said Roy Medley, ABC general secretary.” Here’s the rest of the article…

What’s the Best Day and Time for a Church Service?
Kent over at ChurchRelevance has done the research.  Here’s what he found out.  Not surprisingly:  Sunday morning 10:00 AM or 11:00 AM.

    John MacArthur:  A cult?
I think this is funny (I’m probably the only one)… It seems that MMI is the #1 google search for “john macarthur cult”.  You can see the link here.  Ironically, we are also the #1 google link for ”poker playing pastor”.  Unfortunately, we’re #2 for ”sex sermons”.  This is kind of fun… check this one out.

    Have a great day!
