Richard Roberts Steps Down (Temporarily) as ORU President
Oral Roberts University president Richard Roberts has asked the school’s board of regents for a leave of absence amid accusations of lavish spending at donors’ expense and illegal involvement in a political campaign. On Wednesday, he said he would continue in his role as chairman and chief executive of Oral Roberts Ministries.  “I don’t know how long this leave of absence will last, but I fully trust the members of the Board of Regents,” Roberts said in a statement released by the university. “I pray and believe that in God’s timing, and when the Board feels that it is appropriate, I will be back at my post as president.” SOURCE

Ask Mark Driscoll Anything in a new Web 2.0 Series...
DJ Chuang reports on Mark Driscoll’s new series.  DJ writes that Mark is, “going Web 2.0 to generate a sermon series. Not the kind of preach through a book of the Bible, chapter-by-chapter, verse-by-verse. Over at askanything.marshillchurch.org, they’re collecting questions Twitter-style until November 1st, and then inviting you to vote on the favorite questions until December 14th. The top 9 questions with the most votes will become a sermon series beginning January 2008. (yes, the full 9-yards Web 2.0 with RSS feeds, comment threads, recent questions, blog...) Cool idea… You can see the preview here:

In Contrast, Mark Also Talks of “Digital Sins” in New Blog Post
There must be balance, however, and Mark shares a great post here about his tendency toward ‘cell sin’.  He writes, “I know in years past I too have been guilty of these same digital sins against God, my family, and my own well-being. Now that I see it as a sin that destroys silence, solitude, fellowship, prayerful listening, and meaningfully and attentive friendship, I am deeply convicted that there is a new spiritual discipline of fasting from technology to be mastered. In this way, we can enjoy the life and people that God puts in front of us rather than ignoring them while we peck away with our thumbs and chat about nothing, which in the end is rarely as important as the people we are ignoring all around us.”

Archbishop Apologizes for Giving Communion to Gays Dressed as Nuns...
It was a typical Sunday Mass until two men in heavy makeup and nuns’ habits received Holy Communion from San Francisco’s top Catholic official.  On Oct. 7, Archbishop George Niederauer delivered the Eucharist to members of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence - an activist group whose motto is “go forth and sin some more” - prompting cries of outrage from conservatives across the country and Catholics in San Francisco.  In response to a request for comment, Niederauer released a letter of apology addressed to “Catholics of the Archdiocese of San Francisco and to Catholics at large” in which he said he did not realize his mistake until after the Mass at Most Holy Redeemer Church in the Castro district. “At Communion time, toward the end of the line, two strangely dressed persons came to receive Communion,” Niederauer wrote. “As I recall, one of them wore a large flowered hat or garland.” Niederauer said that although he was familiar with the group because its actions had been condemned by his predecessors, he had never encountered any of the group’s members until that Sunday.  “These two people have long made a practice of mocking the Catholic Church in general and religious women in particular. Someone who dresses in a mock religious habit to attend Mass does so to make a point (that) was intended as a provocative gesture,” he said in the letter, which will be published in this Friday’s issue of Catholic San Francisco, a diocesan newspaper.  SOURCE

Is Pope John Paul II Waving from Beyond the Grave?  Vatican TV Director Believes He Is!
This fiery figure is being hailed as Pope John Paul II making an appearance beyond the grave. The image, said by believers to show the Holy Father with his right hand raised in blessing, was spotted during a ceremony in Poland to mark the second anniversary of his death. Service director Jarek Cielecki, a Polish priest and close friend of John Paul II, travelled to Poland after hearing an onlooker had photographed the image. Father Cielecki said he was convinced the picture showed the former pontiff. “You can see the image of a person in the flames and I think it is the servant of God, Pope John Paul II,” he said.  SOURCE

That Mark Driscoll… the music was definitely cool. Will be interesting to follow.. no doubt.

On his cell sin post… Yep. definitely been guilty of that sin. Really realized it a few Sundays ago when I was texting during the worship service. OUCH! It could have & should have waited until afterwards…

The Roberts family and all involved remain in my prayers…

When I die I hope that if I can communicate with my family and friends on earth, they don’t see me waving from the flames.  Sounds too much like Luke 16:19-31

OK, the Ask Mark Anything website is not very well designed.  When you go there you only see the top 10 questions, so of course they’re getting most of the votes.  If you click on Show More you see the top 30 questions.  To see all the questions you click on Show All and wait about 5 minutes for 869 questions to load, several hundred of which have only gotten 1 or zero votes.   A question with a hundred votes isn’t even in the top 100 questions and 1,000 votes just barely makes the top 25.

Obviously you would have had to be in the know early and post your question at the very beginning of this experiment to have any hope of it being answered.
