Today’s Buzz: Sanjaya, Conference Mania, and Being a Worship Leader Without Being a Donkey&#82

    American Idol Live
So… last night, I took the family to the American Idol tour here in Cleveland.  It was an interesting experience.  We watched last season’s Idol from its beginning to its finale; and it was fun to see the tour live.  This year, I discovered (especially after the concert last night) that there were some that I really liked; and some… not so much.  At the top of the list was, of course, my favorite, Melinda, who is just unbelieveable.  And this year’s winner, Jordan Sparks is also very good (especially for a 17 year old).  There were also some that were really kind of grinding to listen to.  Among them… you guessed it… Sanjaya.  Sorry, Sanjaya; but your Michael Jackson song was… well… laughable.

    Conference Mania
ChurchRelevance.com recently posted about Rachel Wagner’s Rules for Conference Etiquette.  There’s some good stuff there.  I was wondering… what conferences are you planning on attending in the near future?  I’ll be at Catalyst in Atlanta; and Innovation 2007 at Granger in the next couple of months.  Where are you headed?  What would you recommend?  (Oh… and how was the Leadership Summit this year?  I took a year off from that one; but would love to hear any reports on how it went.)

How to Be a Worship Leader Without Being a Donkey
    Interesting title, and article.

OK… time to get ready to fly!

    Have a great day!

    Todd

In today's short buzz (I'm at the airport)... Sanjaya and American Idol; Conference Mania; and how to be a worship leader without being a donkey. It's about 5:55 a.m. and I'm sitting in the Cleveland Airport waiting for my 7:15 departure to Atlanta. For the next couple of days I have a team retreat with my Leadership Network colleagues in the mountains of Georgia. Should be a good, but intense, time of brainstorming, work, and fun.

So Simon Cowell has hijacked MMI and continued killin’ Sanjaya.  Poor kid.  He just wants to sing and brush his hair.  Isn’t that what American Idol is all about?

The Leadership Summit was a mixed bag for me, but the people who were really great MORE than made up for the talks I thought I could do without.

Marcus Buckingham really drove the point home, I was THRILLED that he was brought in sort of last minute. I think the key to being better at what I do is to transition to a strengths-based… attitude, if you will. I’m starting his book first.

For the past five years, I’ve alternated between the arts conferences at Willow and Saddleback, with an occasional songwriter’s conference thrown in. For 2008, we’ll be going to re:create in Nashville for the first time.

Melinda was my favorite too, Todd!  Sanjaya can NOT sing, but that is beside the point to the demographic that favors him.

I’ll be heading to the Groups conference at Willow in late September with the other Meal Group Coaches from our church and our Groups pastor.  Should be a ton of fun!  I’ve never been to Willow, always have done the Summit at a satellite site.

      Hi Todd!

I agree with Peter, Marcus Buckingham made the Leadership Summit all worth it for me!

I’ll be at Granger for INNOVATE 2007 and I’ll bo on the lookout for you!  Innovate has a group going on Facebook if you want to know who else will be there…
