What Bible Version is Right for You?

    Here’s the link...

    So… what’s your favorite version?

What Bible version is right for you? Are you looking for a serious Bible-study version? How about one that is gender neutral? Or one that was translated by a group rather than an individual? Check out this new website to find the perfect version for you. (If you're a KJV only person, you might want to skip this website)...

Interestingly, the highest-rated version for me was the Jewish Publication Society Tanakh!!  Rounding out the top 5 are: New English Translation, Revised English Bible, NIV, and New Century.

      NRSV and NET primarily.

(the NET is, of course, available online at http://www.bible.org/netbible)

I also use a French translation which is quite good for my personal study, but, well… that doesn’t help anyone else.

I try to read directly from the dead sea scrolls and such.  If that is not available I will use even more ancient manuscripts like the KJV.

Actually in all seriousness, I listen to the New Living Translation, preach from the NLT or NIV primarily and study from the NASB.

Leonard - you crack me up.

      So this leaves me wondering…

How many versions do most people have? And then how many of the same versions?

      One… two…. ten….. more?

      Camey,

I have at least one NIV, NCB, NRSV, NASB, NLT, New Jerusslem, Today’s English, Message, Holman Christian Standard (the Southern Baptist Bible), a four volume set that has the original language and an english word above, and I think I have a King James just for kicks.  I use all of them except for the Century, Message, and Today’s English.  Well, I don’t use the KJV either.  My favorite to use most any time is the New Living.  If I get really excited about a revelation, I then break out the NRSV, NASB, and the four volume set to make sure my revelation isn’t based on a bad translation.  Every now and again I even break out my old Hebrew and Greek testaments and try to remember how to use all the books you need to translate them with.

I think it is important to point out that I give away a lot of Bibles, so I keep a lot of different ones on hand.

      Earl,

Thanks for answering. You sound like a lot of people I know - including giving Bibles away.

Funny you including that the Holman Christian Standard is the Southern Baptist Bible.

Thanks again for answering! Have a blessed day.

      Leonard,

Do you use the NLT because it translates Acts 2:38 because you have been saved instead of the correct for the remission of your sins. (There are two versions, one before and one after F.F. Bruce died. He wouldn’t let them use the Baptist doctrine while he was alive.)

Or were you even aware there were two versions?

Great post! I’m just starting out in community management/marketing media and trying to learn how to do it well - resources like this article are incredibly helpful. As our company is based in the US, it’s all a bit new to us. The example above is something that I worry about as well, how to show your own genuine enthusiasm and share the fact that your product is useful in this case.

I believe this aspect is growing everywhere as business owners learn what it is. For example, Phoenix is much more sophisticated in this regards than here in Tucson. I average small business owner is still way behind in their understanding such incidents.  bikini
