Here's an article on how churches are starting to cut back in the Charleston, WV area. The first areas of cutback: building programs and outreach programs... What is your church's budget looking like for next year?

You can read the article here.

So… what’s your church’s budget looking like for next year?  Are you increasing your budget, decreasing, or flatlining for next year?

Sad, our very first item in our budget should be outreach.

Jan, you’re absolutely right, but when so many churches have saddled themselves with large building programs and mortgages, that becomes priority and outreach takes a back seat.  It’s time for churches, just like individuals, to take stock and reprioritize.  Very sad, indeed…

Should Home Depot be required to build on site facilities for guest workers? Several city governments have required Home Depot inc. to build or promise to build facilities to accomodate workers, including restrooms, security staff, and educational outreach programs or risk being denied permits to operate. In Mountainview,Georgia local lawmakers are considering a proposal to require Home Depot to pay $250,000 toward a permanent day labor center and an educational outreach center before building a store there...!!!

Better to make extra principal payments or extra mortgage payments? I am planning on paying down my Toronto condo mortgage early. Am I better off making an extra $500 principal payment or making an additional regular payment every other month? It seems that I pay more interest when I make extra payments, which helps on the taxes - but wondered what it would look like after a few years.

  • Recessions are usually preceded by a shock to the economy most often causes by the breaking of a speculative bubble in the financial markets or a sudden increase in the price of an essential commodity, oil or in the past crop failures. square one condosThe demobilization after major war also usually produce recessions. These are result of an economy has push or drifted away from optimum allocation of resources and to return to optimum or find the new one , resources must be reallocated which produces unemployment, business failures and in some cases bank failures which makes things worse. It is not $4 a gallon gas that causes a recession but the dislocation in the economy as we adjust to the higher price. England has had gas prices in excess of $4 for years and still had a booming economic growth.

A default on payments on purchases of homes. Banks were giving out credit to people that could not pay it off normally.(as they had no income.) The bank has billions of dollars of homes that no body coughed up the money to pay for.
Low interest rates are needed otherwise people will not spend. making the economy move forward....but people have to spend to make it work.
