Discernment Ministry Websites Turn the Gun on Themselves

"There is a campaign of destruction underway in the church. There are lies being passed off as truth; there is slander and gossip and the carnage that is being caused is causing long-term harm to the cause of the Gospel of Christ... I’m talking about the seamy underbelly of what goes on in the name of "discernment ministry."" Those are the words of of 'Slice' fame. It seems that, once again, she finds herself embralled in controversy...

Those are hardly the words of someone who, herself, is the leader of a ‘discernment ministry’.  But it seems that some of the leading ‘discernment’ websites are in a showdown… with each other.  It seems the same tactics they’ve used against the likes of Rick Warren and Rob Bell are now being used against themselves by other discerning Christians.  And it is getting ugly.

To be honest, I was a regular reader of the Slice (now ) website… only to keep up on what they were slamming each day.  But since Ingrid totally wiped out the Slice website what she said was a new project she’d been working on for a long time (even though she didn’t register the domain name until the day after she shut down the Slice website), I’ve kinda lost track (as have many people, I think).

That’s why I was surprised to find out that they are now fighting with each other.

Ingrid posted a heated commentary on how others in the discrenment camp were upset with someone she likes because he was associating with someone they didn’t like.  They were talking against someone and she thought it was unfair.  (Needless to say, this is/was Slice’s MO each and every day).  But now the tables are turned, and it’s all of a sudden, not so funny.

I only post this because I find it interesting.  Interesting and sad.  Here are some links:

And yet another

Hey Todd!  Thanks for the link to my blog!  Although, ironically, it is not exactly my best of posts in terms of character.  You should also note that I have posted a brief apology for my tone and intend on apologizing to Ingrid for it as well.

“When soldiers begin to turn and shoot their own, combat fatigue has set in. No general would long keep soldiers like this in the field.”

Well, perhaps it’s time to take those “soldiers” out of the “field” then…

No wonder she deleted the post later.

Yes - you can certainly see the fatigue kicking in within the Discernment Ministry arena.  It’s interesting to note that I’m beginning to see it happen in the Emergent community as well - we’re all broken vessels, and try as we might, we can never get it right - I believe that the both the descerment and Emergent campings are drifting away from the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, each in opposite directions.

What is most frustrating is that the non-believers that I know are watching, taking notes, and assure me that this whole “Chrstian thing” isn’t for them.

It seems to me that there is ignorance and arrogance and we all fall between the two.

It is easy to be “discerning when you are the only TRUE believers, and the only elect who will get to Heaven because of HOW you do the stuff you do.

HAHAHA the security code I just was asked to enter was “numbers14” So I turned to that chapter.... Hmmmm.

People rebel against God, God warns them, The people continue.... they get their butts kicked in battle.

    Coincedence?
