Vision2
What do you think of this quote by Pastor Ed Young?:

“Little people with little vision…always challenge big people with big vision”

I think that pretty well sums it up... what do you think? Have any great examples of this?

Have a great day!

Todd

Yesterday on my quote of the day, it said, “When everyone is against you, it means that you are absolutely wrong-- or absolutely right.”
    - Albert Guinon

Here’s something I have a passion for and a vision for.

    1. That all strip clubs will lose business and will shut down. Because the people who are attending these establishments are being saved.

    2. That all of those who are in prostitution will be saved. Even the Pimp’s.

    3. That our churches will get on FIRE for Christ instead of setting in the pew, eating dinners, and having golf tourenments to raise money for the church. I’d like to see them invite the people on skid row to their Wed. Night dinners, golf games, bowling games and other functions the church has. As well as have a vistion program for #1. That is my vision.

Big vision without the restraint of small vision can do almost anything or almost nothing.  Having been on church boards with big dreamers I know that they are not always right and can co overboard with ideas and costs.  Yes, God can do all things but He also asks me to rely on Him and not just my big ideas and vision.  Without some accountability I have seen churches go so far beyond their means that they were almost forced to close.  Not because of the resistance of the small vision members, but because the big vision members had no restraint.  We need dreamers and visionaries but we also need those without that big vision to complete the task.  BALANCE!!

I think Rosa Parks embodied this when she wouldn’t move from her seat.  Her little vision (I’m tired and don’t want to move) challenged the big vision (racism) of the south.

I guess it depends on whose “vision” the person is using.

It seems to me the Greatest Vision comes from God and He is NEVER wrong.

But there is a way which seems right unto man… and this one is almost ALWAYS wrong.

    Love the quote eric:
["When everyone is against you, it means that you are absolutely wrong-- or absolutely right.”
    - Albert Guinon]

How do we know for sure?  As my friends would say… “Let’s go to Scripture” “Chapter and Verse”

    I always liked,

“It isn’t the size of the man in the fight, its the size of the fight in the man!”

Women feel free to exchange “man” with “woman”.

I like that Pastor Al.. I’m a short thing at 5 foot 4. Oh.. And I’m also a woman.

Hey wait! If I submit to using that phrase does that mean I’m being submissive?

Hopefully.. that made you laugh.. Gotta go do “acts of service” now like the dishes. smile

    Camey,

In my house I do the dishes, not my wife. I guess that makes me a lib’ral…

“Big things comes in little packages.”

I think of my kidos… I never really learned the role of loving, caring, providing, and doing without until that little precious package arrived.

    Ok here’s another one…

“Do not follow, for I may not lead. Do not lead, for I may not follow. Just go over there somewhere, please?”

    And another…

“All I ask is a chance to prove money can’t make me happy.”

Or the corollary to Pastor Al’s last thought:  Lead, follow, or get out of the way!

I think Campus Crusade for Christ is a pretty good model of the balance that Bart counseled.  Bill Bright was a big dreamer, a visionary for whom things like a million-dollar property in the San Bernardino mountains in the late 50s/early 60s was just one more way for God to show his power.  A lot of groans and “there he goes again"s were heard in the CCC board rooms when Bill opened his mouth; and then those people went to work to implement realistically the big dreams that Bill shared.

    Ok, I can’t stop here are a few more…

“If at first you don’t succeed, redefine success.”

“If it’s true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?”

“If you think you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.”

“When everything’s coming your way, you’re in the wrong lane and going the wrong way.”

Pastor Al ... you’re cracking me up!

Peter, Make it “in my wife’s house” THEN, I’ll call you a lib’ral..

Umm what was the subject again Todd? Sorry.

After several weeks of reading discussions, I just had to chime in on this one!

We must be very careful to balance ‘vision’ with accountability. I am currently trying to recover from a very bad experience with a pastor who used his broad and innovative ‘vision’ like a club. He is in all respects an abusive leader, as described on this blog. Vision that is truly from God is an amazing thing to behold, but ‘vision’ from man can be used to cover a multitude of sins… And ultimately injure the body of Christ.

Two cents from a disillusioned ‘lurker’…

“did you ever notice thta the one common factor in all of your unsatisfactory relationships is .... you?”

LOL!  You know it really is “all about me!” grin

    Which reminds me…

“I don’t have a solution, but I do admire the problem.”

    and

“If a thing is worth doing, it would have been done already.”

    anonymous,

Thank you for chiming in and sharing just a glimpse of your obvious hurt and pain with us.

Definitely agree with you about vision with accountability. I am so sorry you have had this very bad experience with a pastor.

You and this situation (pastor included) have been prayed for specifically just now.

    Thank you again for sharing,
    Camey

“Little people with little vision…always challenge big people with big vision”

I find this to be oxymoronic, It doesn’t make sense. If a person is thought to be “little” and has a vision that is thought to be “little”, then comes the confusing part… ALWAYS (???) challenge? If some one thinks so little of themselves why would they bother challenging anyone?

More apt I would think is the “BIG” people (who think themselves to be BIG, always see themselves with a vision that is as BIG as their heads.

Why concern ourselves with being little or big. Places where God has sent us might be big places or little places. Little places might call for a vision of baby steps instead of forming a mega work in six months and having 10,000 in attendance. A BIG visionary might do very poorly in this setting. They would have to go to where there is more people to fill the vision than the 20,000 that live within 50 miles of the BIG visionary.

Sounds about as convoluted as the original concept doesn’t it.

Thank you, Camey for your very kind and thoughtful words. My faith in God has not been shaken, and I still long to serve Him. However, my ability to trust those who are supposed to shepherd and protect the flock has been damaged. I am trying to work through this, but it’s taking longer than I would have imagined.

My family’s reputation has been thoroughly assasinated since leaving staff. There are several members who will not speak to us, and in our decision not to further injure the body, we’ve not fully explained our leaving. My question is: when do you sound the alarm? There is a fine line between whistleblower and gossip. I’d never want to cross that line, but it’s more painful seeing this ‘national’ ministry injure people again and again.

Sorry, Todd. Don’t mean to start another topic here! Just a very open wound. Beware of those who confuse ‘vision’ with license!

Pastor Al, those are good ones.

Curly on the three Stooges use that same line but he said, “Once you don’t succed, keep sucking until you do succed.”

I wanted you to know that I have seen your response and do have some suggestions. I have been called to go make a visit.. not sure how long I’ll be gone.

I will respond back to you. More importantly, I will keep lifting up in prayer!

    I don’t know who C.T Studd is but I love this quote;

“Some wish to live within the sound of Church or Chapel bell. I want to run a Rescue Shop within a yard of hell.” - C.T. Studd
