Hell Yeah Church of Love and Miracles mixes music, booze and spirituality

No joke... This 'unity' church in Boulder, CO actually exists. According to The Daily Camera, "With the credo "all things are possible," the Hell Yeah Church meets the second Sunday of each month in the back room of the b.side Lounge in downtown Boulder. Instead of a sip of communion wine and bread, visitors can enjoy a bloody Mary or a mimosa, and even score some breakfast. Betsy Workman, owner of the b.side, donates the space and staff. The Pastor at "Hell Yeah", Jane Ann Stansfield was ordained by the Conference of Practical Christianity, an offshoot of the Unity Church, after moving to Boulder from Key West, Fla., in 2005. She does not follow any one religious tradition or denomination, but says she is open to them all...

OK… they get today’s prize for most ‘articulate’ church name.

Oh, I thought this was another article about Mars Hill and Mark Driscoll… ha ha ha ha....

You know, when the Unity church is having offshoots, what hope do the rest of us have? smile

Just another day in the “People’s Republic of Boulder.”

But seriously, having just moved in the fall away from a town 7 miles east of Boulder that we lived in for six years, and having grown up in Colorado, this is not unusual for Boulder.  In fact one of the discouraging things is the growth and popularity of these kind of “churches” (I use the term loosely).  I think the saddest part can be summed up in the following quote from the “pastor”:

“‘I don’t go into Jesus and I don’t go into God,” Stansfield said. “I call it consciousness—but you can call it Jesus, you can call it Buddha, it is whatever you would like it to be. I think we are all coming from the same place of consciousness. It is what makes the sun come up, it’s what makes the flowers bloom, it’s the life force that gives us breath.’”

If you link to the article from the Daily Camera, be sure to peruse the reader comments below it.  They are also pretty typical of the attitude.

How about “You Church"… the church where you make up all the rules… just the ones that are most comfortable to you, though. Heaven forbid we might believe that God has standards, or that we are supposed to help the more unfortunate of this world.

Just come, sip lattes (provided at no cost to you), put your feet up… and make up your own religion…

If you believe everything you will fall for anything.

That blue haze over Boulder must be getting more potent here recently.  Fortunately, I haven’t had to go up there for several months now.  But I could have sworn I could smell something all the way in Broomfield…

Too funny!  We lived on the far west side of Lafayette (Arapahoe and 95th) and totally understand.

Todd, where do you find this stuff, man? It definitely shows there are those who will fall for anything because they haven’t learned the truth of God’s Word.
