Kirk Cameron:  “I’ll Only Kiss My Wife”

In Kirk Cameron’s new movie, “Fireproof,” he has to kiss the actress playing his wife. That was a problem.

Cameron will not kiss any woman who is not his wife.

“I have a commitment not to kiss any other woman,” the former child star of “Growing Pains” told Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford Monday on TODAY in New York.

To get around the conflict, the filmmakers employed a bit of movie magic, Cameron explained. They dressed his wife, actress Chelsea Noble, like the movie’s female lead and shot the scene in silhouette.

“So when I’m kissing my wife, we’re actually husband and wife honoring marriage behind the scenes,” Cameron said as Gifford and Kotb melted from the romanticism of the moment.

QUESTION:  Would it have been a sin for Kirk to kiss his co-star?  Would it have been un-wise?  Would it have been no big deal?  What do you think?

Would it have been a sin, no. But is that the right question?
Shouldn’t the focus, especially on a site like MMI, be on celebrating someone who upholds a commitment to moral standards? (Especially when it happens within the entertainment industry!)

kirk you were right, thanks for showing a real commitment.

If whatever is not of faith is sin, then for him to do this yes it would be sin.

Uh, for such an accomplished actor I can’t believe this is something he’d hold to. While I agree with the sentiment that you should only kiss your wife romantically… if he took this same logic to the rest of acting… how can he possibly play the part of anyone? Wouldn’t that be lying to pretend to be someone else?

But who am I to question a man’s motives? I just hope he’s not trying to make a larger statement.

I would say it is a matter of personal conviction, and is between him, God, and his wife.

Romans 14 fits pretty nicely here.
If God lead him to kiss his wife only, it would be a Sin for him to disobey his calling.

Would it have been a sin for Kirk to kiss his co-star?  No

Would it have been un-wise?  No

Would it have been no big deal?  No big deal whatsoever.

What do you think? I think Kirk is, with all due respect, more of an evangelical celebrity than an actor, and this is just part of that. But if it’s his conviction, then no problem.

  • I salute Kirk Camron for this.  Proud of his conviction, and even prouder that he stuck with it.

On another note, I hear this is an awesome movie.  Can’t wait to see it.

I wouldn’t kiss a woman who wasn’t my wife either.

But Kirk Cameron is still gay.

    Lew, your comment is trash.

I applaud Kirk for doing this.
I’ve often wondered how Christians could behave unwisely on screen. I’m glad he chose not to.

Any act that violates your conscience is sin. Paul said all things are lawful but not all things are profittable.  To lust after a woman is the same as adultery and I do not feel it is possible for a man to kiss a woman (unless she has really bad breath) and not have a lustful thought.

When I saw the movie, knowing that Kirk was a Christian and had a good marriage, I was troubled by the kissing scene.  I was happy and relieved to find out that they had put his wife in the scene instead.  Thanks Kirk for insisting.

We just got home from seeing this movie,
Fireproof. I was wondering about that kiss
at the firehouse. I’m glad he had his real wife fill in like that.
I saw Kirk on a Christain talk show just the other day talking about this movie. That’s why we went to see it.
I recommend it to every married or engaged couple in this country to go see this movie.
I bet there would not be as many divorces if people would see this wonderful movie.
    God Bless, Kirk Camron.

I just got back from watching Fireproof… it was great to see such a different-flavored movie on the regular, big screen
