KJV Only Preacher Tazed at Border Patrol:  You Can’t Make This Stuff Up!

Orginally published on Friday, May 15, 2009 at 7:21 AM
by Todd Rhoades

Remember this guy? Well, this week he had a little altercation with the border patrol. So, now I guess we can add the border patrol to list of those people this preacher doesn't like (Perry Noble, and men who pisseth sitting down are also on his list).

Here's the CNN report on this incident.

This might be the only time allowable by scripture to pisseth sitting down. I'm just saying that tazer might do that. (Thanks to @kentshaffer for the heads up on this one!)

Hmmm. Perhaps he should have followed the instructions when first stopped. Not a great example of what anybody should do, let alone a Christian and a pastor.

The Border Patrol is there for a reason.  He got what he deserved.

If I’m stopped in the middle of the desert by the Border Patrol, am I going to cooperate? Yes, because I believe in their mission to protect this nation.
However, this man’s rights were indeed violated, at least based on this testimony. So far, we’ve only heard one side. Before we judge, we should hear the rest: “Prov. 18:17 The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him. ESV”

Not sure this is what Jesus was talking about at the end of the Beatitudes…

And then, the background looks like a sanctuary...what’s that chair you’re sitting in?  The “reserved for 20% tithers” chair?

Respect their au-thor-i-tay, or say “Hello” to Mr. Tazer.  You gotta love the electrifying ending to a beautiful story.

Indeed.  I think maybe THEY didn’t know he was right....he could have and should have allowed a quick look and I’m sure he’d have been on his way.  This is definitely one way to get attention.  I’m very sorry for his trouble and I do feel for his situation, but....really...humor them.  “Agree with thine adversary quickly...”

The guy is an idiot and unfortunately got exactly what he was looking for and that was a fight!  The reason he will not have anything to stand upon is because as soon as they tell you that the dog has indicated that there is a problem that then validates probable cause.  Whether they were telling the truth or not is for them to deal with not for the psycho pastor.  Had they not given him any legal cause to search his car then he would be in the right not to allow them to search his car and he would also be right not to answer there questions as that is not a law.  However, this guy obviously was looking to prove some type of point and they proved it for him and well, now he has several broken windows and a broken face!  Btw, if you watch the footage from the camera he had, which again shows that this guy was looking for a fight, he puts some cheesy weird music bed under the video to make people feel sorry for him or something.  I hate that valuable time from men and women who are trying to do their jobs was taken up by some whacked out loon who, I guarantee you he will think again before being obtrusive and annoying to the police ever again.  Btw, I love tazers...I think they proved in this point that they are pretty effective!

    This guy is an idiot.

As a fellow idiot, I can testify that there is grace for idiocy, grin

On you tube there is a link to a video that was shot during one of his services.  In it he calls Obama a devil.  Someone in the “congregation” disagrees, at which point KJV Man shouts “Get the hell out of my church!”

The congegant should count his blessings.

This guy was right on with what he did.  He was under no obligation to have to answer their questions (contrary to the belief of, “if you have nothing to hide, why not answer?").  He was respectful, asked why they wanted to do things, did not fight them or combat, and was yet treated like a criminal.  He was in the right, and the officers were in the wrong.  Check the video he recorded while in the checkpoint and the surveillance footage on YouTube, too.

I’ve watched some of this guys “sermons” and he’s definitely lunatic fringe - HOWEVER, we do not live in a police state where we have to mindlessly do what someone with a badge tells us to do without an explanation.  The dog was a ruse, and Border Patrol knew it - otherwise, why not allow DPS to watch the dog in action?

Would I have done it the way he did? - no.  I think I would have just video taped the entire thing while minimally complying with their officers request - I would love to have it on tape when they searched the vehicle and came up dry.  Nevertheless, no one should be punitively treated the way the officers treated this man.

    Thanks CS.

Let me rephrase. This guy was within his rights AND he was an idiot. {insert sarcastic smirk here}.

He was “right” in that he was in his rights to refuse the search. And he was within his rights to be forcibly removed from his vehicle.

He was an idiot, because what purpose would it serve for him to exercise his fourth amendment right? Did he really think that the boarder patrol was going to just let him stroll along his way? Is that the kind of border patrol we want? The kind that just allows suspicious vehicles to go on down the road?

C’mon...this guy acted neither innocent as a dove or wise as a serpent.

I am an pessimistic optimistic, and my pessimism has kicked in after watching the video. Ok, I can see where he might have gotten the cuts because of the glass, but to have you face ground into the pavement with the full weight of a cop stepping on your head, well, I don’t see damage to other parts of the head that would come from such an act.

Just a tiny mark on the nose where you would expect lots of damage because of the described attack. Also, I don’t notice any ear damage that would I would expect as a natural result from the description of the assualt. The natural reaction would be to turn your head to the side to protect the face. I don’t see any evidence of that.

No doubt he had a confrontation, but I seriously doubt if it was nearly as dramatic as described.

One other thing, if a cop starts to tap on your window with a hammer common sense should kick in, you would think. Do as asked!

I think this guy is looking for a spot on Larry King.

I am a bit taken back at the attitude towards this man.  I agree with nothing or very little he says or does.  I would have simply complied, but is the spirit toward a brother correct.  Just wondering, since I am wrestling with it in my own heart.  I hate seeing people hurt, even when it might seem they caused it.
    Just saying.

Mostly been said, but I’ll reiterate.  Not a fan of this dude and i think he was an idiot for not just complying with the Border Patrol and assist them in serving him and us by doing their job.  And we’ve only heard his side at this point.

However, while I also doubt it was as dramatic as he recounts (we all embelish our stories, really) it does seem like they used excessive force for the situation.  Of course, I may have been tempted to out of frustration from this guy too.  That last part was sorta a joke.  Still not cool.  But also his own fault to a large degree.

Okay, let’s see....1) the 4th amendment supercedes the command of Scripture to obey authority?  2) notice the use of his word “revile”?  Hmmmm...where else have I heard that word before??  3) if his bladder was that full, believe me, he would have involuntarily relieved himself when he was tazed.  4) why is that he’s been stopped several time before?  Sounds pretty cockamamie to me.

The more videos I’ve watched, the less I feel bad for the dude.

And does anyone else see an uncanny resemblance to Jack Shepherd (Matthew Fox) on Lost?  Especially from the season finale with his face all bloody.

Just let them search the vehicle if you’ve got nothing to hide.

I haven’t watched the whole video yet.  I downloaded to watch later.  I did go to his blog site (wife’s blog site) and I saw the camcorder on the dash board of his car.  So let me ask this question…

Why is he recording this in the first place?  He was going through BP...did he know this was coming, was he trying to do this?  Maybe I just need to watch the video, but from the outside looking in it doesn’t smell right.

I only had to watch one other video of his “sermon” to realize that this “beating” was most likely well deserved.

This is the image that non-believers remember.  His pissy sermon is why good people, hate us.

I didn’t watch the entire video, but I wonder if the camera panned around to see the three people sitting in the congregation.

I don’t know what scares me more - that this guy is a “pastor” or that he has followers.

The idea that if we’re not doing anything wrong we shouldn’t mind being searched is what leads to warrantless wiretapping. What’s next? Helicopters overhead? GPS tracking of every American’s car?  Examination of every email and web posting? Peeping into bedrooms to see if we can catch teenagers having sex?

I am surprised no one has picked up the link between immigration and border patrol behavior.  It’s pretty much open season on illegal aliens, and ironically for this guy evangelical Christians have been in the vanguard encouraging this kind of police behavior.

No matter what you think about this guy and how he handled the situation, if his words are 100% true his rights were violated and he should would seek legal counsel.

Steve writes “ ...if his words are 100% true… “

Ah, therein lies the rub! Remember that this is an individual who ascribes great theological import to the position I take when relieving myself… I would say his grasp on reality is suspect at best.

That is why I prefaced my next sentence with, if they are 100% true.
