Leadership Network Mourns the Deaths of Dr. Forrest Pollock and Preston Pollock

It was a sad day today in Dallas. I'm at Leadership Network for our quarterly all-staff meetings. Yesterday and today, we held an "Innovations Briefing" for about fifty pastors and leaders from churches all over the country to give a status report on some our our recent findings. One of the people who was supposed to be in our briefing was Pastor Forest Pollock, the SP at Bell Shoals Baptist Church in Brandon, FL. He and his 13 year old son, Preston, were supposed to arrive by noon. At the end of the day, they still had not yet arrived. No one was able to get through to his cell phone. Forest was piloting his own small plane to Dallas for the meeting with us and a couple days away with his son. They never arrived. Their plane was found this morning in North Carolina. There were no survivors. Please pray for the church family at Bell Shoals. Bell Shoals is a large church that will be hurting for a long time to come. As well, pray for Forest's wife and their remaining five kids. This will for sure be a terrible time for them. May the love of Christ surround them and this church during this time.

Late in the day, Leadership Network released this statement:

Leadership Network Mourns the Deaths of Dr. Forrest Pollock and Preston Pollock

DALLAS, TX (May 13, 2008) —Leadership Network President and CEO Tom Wilson issued the following statement at the news of the tragic death of Dr. Forest Pollock, Senior Pastor of Bell Shoals Baptist Church in Brandon, FL, and his 13-year-old son, Preston. At the time of the May 12, 2008, plane crash that took their lives, the Pollocks were traveling to a Leadership Network-hosted conference for innovative church leaders in Dallas, Texas.

“The staff and Board of Trustees of Leadership Network join me in expressing our deepest condolences to the family of Forrest and Preston Pollock and the good people of Bell Shoals Baptist Church. As you walk through the difficult days ahead, please know that we grieve with you and will be praying for you. Dr. Pollock’s all-too-sudden death leaves a profound legacy for others to follow—a legacy of love for his family, commitment to his Lord and service to others. Even as our hearts ache, may we take comfort in the knowledge that Dr. Pollock’s last moments on this earth reflected his deepest passions—a father living life with his son and a pastor eagerly seeking to expand the Kingdom of God.”

—Tom Wilson, President and CEO

Thanks for your prayers.

Having served as an Assc Pastor across town from Forest, I know a little about his impact.  God used his leadership and integrity to change the image of a scandal marred church into a proud beacon of light for the Gospel.

My prayers are with his famil and his church.

A tragic loss for his family and the church. Praise God for a life well-lived and a legacy of integrity and grace. Will keep the whole leadership team in prayer, both at his church and at Leadership Network.
