“Stupid Pastors” Finally Have a Home

I just found this new blog specifically for reporting the stupid things that pastors sometimes do.  (Note:  As of this morning, there was nothing listed there yet… could it be that there is no such thing as a "stupid" pastor?)  If not, please add you story… I think it would be great to read all the stories!

Here's the link:  StupidPastors.com  (love the url!)

Have a great "non-stupid" day!

Todd

I love any opportunity to see the men we see on stage do something silly!

Several of our Pastors/ church planters are doctors.  One in Mongolia and the other in the Dominican Republic.  The mother of one of the pastors asked why they didn’t get another religion because Christianity seemed so costly.  I guess some would say it was a stupid thing to give your life as a ransom for many but where would I be if they didn’t?  I just want to acknowledge my appreciation to all the pastors who persevere, and lead the sheep.

This could be said of my previous pastor:

    Proverbs 12:1 (NIV)

Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.

He has an obvious problem with lying, temper, and selfish ambition.  I confronted him.  He asked me to leave.  I left.

My closest friend in the ministry serves on staff as a worship pastor, as I do. A few years ago his pastor felt impressed to preach a Christmas sermon which debunked Christmas myths. He said this from the pulpit on a Sunday morning: “I want all the children here to listen to me very carefully. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS SANTA CLAUS!”

The predictable result: after worship concluded, angry mothers descended on him from all over the sanctuary. And why wouldn’t they? Their young children were in the pews bawling because, in their minds, their preacher just told them they weren’t ever receiving any presents again. The pastor tried in vain to explain his reasons, but they were having none of it. My friend hoped that his pastor learned an important lesson, but his troubled tenure included more examples such as this.

Proverbs 26:17 says: “Like one who seizes a dog by the ears, so is a passer-by who meddles in a quarrel not his own.” A pastor will face enough troubles in ministry; there’s no need to invite it.
