The Vatican Releases the “10 Commandments for Driving”… I add my own.

Not sure if this is a part of the official cannon or not, but in 2007, the Vatican recently released an official ten commandments for drivers. Really. Here they are...

1. Thou shall not kill

2. The road shall be a means of communion between people and not of mortal harm

3. Courtesy, uprightness, and prudence will help you deal with unforeseeable events

4. Be charitable and help your neighbor in need, especially victims of accidents

5. Cars shall not be an expression of power and domination, or an occasion of sin...

6.  Charitably convince the young and not so young not to drive when they are not in a fitting condition to do so

7.  Support the families of accident victims

8.  Bring guilty motorists and their victims together, at the appropriate time, so they can undergo the liberating experience of forgiveness

9.  On the road, protect the more vulnerable party

10. Feel responsible toward others

Here are a few of my own:

11.  For crying out loud, drive the speed limit.

12.  If you’re behind me at a stop light, and it takes me a couple seconds to go on the green light… beeping at me will only make me go slower.  I guarantee it.

13.  Texting is not cool while driving.  Twittering, however, is totally acceptable.

14.  If you’re going slower than me on the interstate, please move to the right.

Do you have any driving commandments you’d like to add to the list?

Thou shalt ALWAYS use your turn signals - and yes, that means when you’re changing lanes as well.

Thou shalt drive the speed limit in school zones.  I don’t want you killing a kid because you’re in a hurry, or even if you’re late for work.

Thou shalt be extremely glad I’m not a cop…

Thou shalt not use the middle turn lane as a driving lane.

Do not tailgate me, I’ll only go slower to protect us both.

Thou shall not stop in the right lane at a traffic light unless you are actually turning right.

Thou shalt pay attention to other drivers so that if they have their turn signal on, thou shalt notice and respond accordingly.

Not a commandment as much as a proverb - A wise man knows that his car windows are made of see-through glass; a fool presumes nobody can see what he is doing while he drives.

Thou shalt not swerve around me on the right and cut me off in the left turn lane of an intersection if I choose to stay safely behind the line because it’s an oblong intersection that sees a lot of accidents caused by people who insist on waiting in the middle of it to turn left, and then NOT TURN when the opportunity finally presents itself, and then slam on your brakes in the middle of said busy intersection when I honk at you.

    (I’m over it. Really.)

Thou shalt use they turn signal, and subsequently turn thy turn signal OFF after thou hast used it.

Thou shalt notice motorcycles and thou shalt not turn left in front of them.
