unChristian: What a New Generation Really Thinks about Christianity and Why it Matters

Orginally published on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 7:02 AM
by Todd Rhoades

Christians are supposed to represent Christ to the world. But according to the latest report card, something has gone terribly wrong. Using descriptions like “hypocritical,” “insensitive,” and “judgmental,” young Americans share an impression of Christians that’s nothing short of... unChristian...

Groundbreaking research into the perceptions of 16- to 29-year-old non-Christians reveals that Christians have taken several giant steps backward in one of their most important assignments. The shocking details of the study, commissioned by Fermi Project and conducted by The Barna Group, are presented with uncompromising honesty in UnChristian.

UnChristian explains why these perceptions exist, describes how to reverse them, and gives practical examples of how Christians can positively contribute to culture from individuals who are living compelling lives. With responses from: Charles W. Colson, Andy Stanley, Jim Wallis, Margaret Feinberg, Jonalyn Fincher, Louie Giglio, Brian McLaren, John Stott, Chris Seay, Rick McKinley, Sarah Raymond Cunningham and more.

You can order the book unChristian: What a New Generation Really Thinks about Christianity and Why it Matters now from Amazon.com here.  Mine arrives today!

“To recover our heart for Jesus, we must recover our heart for outsiders.”

Okay. That statement alone makes me want to read the book. Totally agree with it!

Baker Publishing Group is making free copies available at http://www.bakerpublishinggroup/unchristian.

Offer good while they last.  I got mine ordered yesterday,

Also, this sounds a lot like what I’m currently reading in Dan Kimball’s book, “They Like Jesus but Not the Church.”

Very good reading as well as challenging.

I ordered my free copy the other day through Baker as well.  Let me give a shout out to my friend Tony over at Set’s n’ Service.  He has been doing a great, comprehensive series of posts on the book.  Check his blog out at:

I have really benefited from his posts.

Hey Bill thanks a lot for the connect to my site. smile Todd I just recently did an interview with Scot McKnight who is also reviewing the book over @ Jesus Creed right now.

I posed the main criticism Kinnaman and Lyons found among the Mosiacs and Busters to Scot, and asked him what he thought Jesus did and said that was relevant to their concerns. Check it out here if you’re interested.

    unChristian Society Room Marketing:

I thought you would want to know that Fermi Project just released the official “UnChristian: Change the Perception” DVD Curriculum designed for small groups and church staffs. It has David Kinnaman, Gabe Lyons, Shane Claiborne and Rick McKinley talking through how the perceptions can change and is a resource I would highly recommend. Check it out at:
