What Would Negative Church Political Advertisements Sound Like?

Something striking hit me this morning as I was listening to a negative political commercial on the radio. What if Christians used this same format to 'campaign' against those they don't agree with. Here's what I think it might sound like. (This is a blog, people; not radio; so you'll have to use your imagination to 'hear' these!)...

Rick Warren SAYS he wants you to have a purpose driven life.  But Rick Warren doesn’t tell you his REAL purpose.  FACT:  Rick Warren wants to take away YOUR right to sing hymns.  FACT:  If you don’t agree with Rick Warren’s ‘purpose driven’ philosphy, he has advocated his goulish pastoral misfits literally kick you out of your own church.  FACT:  Thousands of misplaced church-goers have now given-up on finding a conservative, Bible-based church in their local community due to the forced saturation of PD philosophies and theology.  It’s time to tell Rick Warren NO:  No to hula worship; No to contemporary music; No to elder rule; No to the false gospel that ultimately leads people to hell; and No to the purpose driven drivel that has made millions of dollars for money-hungry Rick Warren and left thousands without a church home.  Stand up against spiritual malpractice.  Vote no on PD 411.  The future of church as you’ve known it depends on your vote.  (paid for by the Committee to Take Down Rick Warren; Ingrid Schlueter, chairman).

Don’t believe the lies being spread about Rick Warren.  THEY say Rick Warren wants to take away your right to sing hymns.  In reality, Warren’s Saddleback Church has sung more than a dozen hymns since 2003; most of them with a fresh, contemporary feel that doesn’t make you wish your neighbor was actually singing “On a Hill Far Away”.  THEY say that thousands have been kicked out of their churches because of Rick Warren’s influence.  In reality, thousands of people leave churches every year for reasons way beyond Rick Warren’s control.  Things like the color of the carpet or drapes; not being able to perform special music; and the biggest reason:  not getting their way.  THEY say that Rick Warren supports hula worship.  The truth is, Rick Warren worships God; not hulas.  THEY say Rick Warren leads people on the path to hell.  The truth is, they spend all their time ripping Rick Warren while the people around them see what they’re doing and vow never to attend church, ever again.  Is that the message we want to send?  God DOES have a purpose for your life.  And using Rick Warren to speak truth into you is one of them.  Vote yes on PD 411; and no to the nasty attacks of negative Christianity.  (paid for, on purpose, for the PD 411 ‘Get Out the Vote’ fund.  Doug Fields and Rick Muchow, chairmen)

Any thoughts?  Anyone else want to take a stab at a negative christian political ad?

    Hi Todd-

I could take a shot… then you (Wendi, and others who think the same) would repeat what you always say-- stop the RW bashing.  Confused!

    Yeah, it’s called sarcasm… and I don’t care who you are… that’s funny!  smile

    Bernie -

If you subject your own views to satire and sarcasm, in other words you make fun of yourself instead of just those on the other side . . . then we’ll laugh (with you).  If not . . . well you might be right.

And yes Todd, it is funny.

I believe I heard sermons like these before.  We have a fundamentalist radio station and I’m sure Pastor I.M. Right preached the first ad or something like it - the Sermon was called, “Why Satan loves Rick!” Then we have a contemporary Christian radio where the Pastor Lovejoy of the First Reformed Bapticostical Family Community Church preached “Why Rick is Right!” - similar to the second ad.  Hmmm.  O what fun it is!

hardy har har… that is a good one!

here in PA we have what seems like some of the most negative advertising at election time. I’m sick of it. I needed this!
