Church Video Ideas: The Big Picture

I’m not telling you anything you don’t know; this is the reality of church ministry. What I’d like to propose is that with the unavoidable week to week worship planning that we do each week, it’s crucial that you take some time every now and then to see the big picture – what some call the view from 30,000 feet.
To do this, you’ll have to be intentional. It’s usually helpful to set aside a day, a few days or even a sabbatical to allow you ample time to focus on what’s really important. Besides allotting time for this discipline, you should also plan to get away to an inspirational, out-of-the-ordinary location (don’t attempt this is your office). Drive somewhere, go to a hotel, a scenic outdoor location, etc. and take time to appreciate God’s creation. Bring your Bible and spend some time in worship and prayer. Ask God to reveal His heart to you. Ask Him to guide your plans, goals and dreams.
Look at where you and your ministry are and where you’d like to be. Prayerfully consider what steps need to be taken to move toward your desired goals. Bring a list of the names of the staff and volunteers that serve in your ministry area. Take time to pray for them by name and ask God how you can better minister to and lead them.
Take a notebook or pad out and just begin writing ideas down that come to you. Dream, brother. Dream, sister. God has gifted and wired you with creativity, innovation and vision. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you what a successful and healthy ministry team would look like. Prayerfully consider what you could begin doing, what you could stop doing and what you can do better or differently. Pray about changes that need to be made on your team, tough conversations that you need to have and issues that need to be addressed.
I think you get the point. In conclusion, I’d simply reiterate that this doesn’t happen by accident or on its own – you must be intentional. You have to schedule this time away and view it as essential to the health of your team and the future of the ministry you lead.

Truer words may have never been spoken: Sunday comes every week. This is my 12th year serving on a church staff. I’ve always marveled at how frequently Sunday continues to roll around. You can pour out your heart and soul into the planning of a worship service – work hard on a drama, a video, a special music piece or deliver your best sermon ever, but then comes Monday and it’s back to the drawing board; time to start all over from scratch and do it again...
