Creflo Dollar and Benny Hinn On the Outs at ORU

ORU’s board has 23 business regents and 18 others who are spiritual regents, associate regents and regents emeritus. Those 18 other regents do not have a vote in business and financial matters, according to ORU’s bylaws.

The bylaws give Richard and Oral Roberts wide authority on all spiritual matters, including the right to veto decisions by business regents on such matters.

Richard Roberts resigned as ORU’s president Nov. 23 after three former professors filed a lawsuit. The suit alleges that Roberts and his family misspent university and ministry money and lived lavishly.

A Tulsa District Court judge is scheduled to hear several motions in the lawsuit Tuesday.

ORU’s board of regents had been scheduled to meet Wednesday, but Burton said the meeting had been canceled because of the ice storm. Burton said he did not know when the next meeting would take place.

Evangelist Creflo Dollar has resigned from the Oral Roberts University board of regents, and another evangelist, Benny Hinn, has lost his status as a voting member of the board. ORU’s spokesman Jeremy Burton confirmed Wednesday that Dollar had resigned and that Hinn had been named a “regent emeritus” without a vote on the board. Both refused last week to respond to a Senate inquiry into lavish spending by evangelists...

      Good for ORU.

The board also voted to separate Oral Roberts Univ. (ORU) from Oral Roberts Evangelistic Association (OREA), which I think is a great move.

While I was there from 1996-1999 I noticed a division between the professors who had more of an academic vision for the school and the administration and spiritual life department that had more of a flaky, fluffy, wacky charismatic/prosperity vision for the school.

I think ORU will be better off following an academic vision, which will require academic leaders in the administration and board of regents.

This seems like appropriate action for the school to take in light of the congressional investigations.  And of course Dollar and Hinn refused to respond to Congress, what response could they make?  “It’s my money and I’ll spend it however I like.”

That’s the point, it’s NOT your money, it’s money given to God thru donations to church and ministry.

Humility seems to escape us all at times.  WWJD?  After watching ABC news interview with Pastor Dollar this morning, I believe the ministries are being exposed by God.  God wants us all to prosper so we can be a blessing to others.  Money spend on a rolls royce could have been invested in a business or something to employ people. Additionally, how does one church decide to purchase a roll royce for its pastor?  Is this a voting session or by some other means?  Ministries/pastors could be more creative in investing in the lives of the people/communities instead of living the “bling bling” life like the rich and famous.  Additionally, the bible specifically states obey the laws of the land… if donated $$ is not to be used for personal use, thy [ministries] shall not cheat or steal from the givers.

      Hello,

These have been very sad times for the Church seeing so called leaders in the Church living there lives in such a way that would turn people away from the Lord. So many people need Jesus and when they see the way so called leaders are living there lives. In the last days even the elect will be blinded and turn to lavish life styles. We have to call sin what it is and not compromise the word of God. When one man say’s he believes in killing unborn baby’s how can we even consider voting for that person. We have church leaders that would rather go along with these types of people and hold on to the wealth that is coming to them from people they do not want to offend. Many will go before the Lord on that day and say Lord Lord, I have done may things in your name, I have healed the sick, raised the dead and cast out demons in your name. And God will say to that man, depart from me ye workers of iniquity I never knew you. But this I say to the Church, you have done well in your giving to God and what man has abused your giving and lived better than those who has given. To you who have given, much will be given back to you and he who stoled from you will get his reward. I hope and pray for those who have abused what the Church has given to repent and live a humble life pleasing to God but it would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a neddle than for that man to repent. God does want his people to live prosperous lives and have more than enuff to help others and I am all for prosperity as long as we ourselves have earned it. We should pray for our leaders and for our new president as God has said in his word. We should not bow down to his beliefs if they are against Gods word but we should always know that God will always take care of his own in times of truble. Remeber this. We do not have to fly around in Jets and drive exspensive cars and live in million dollar homes to show Gods glory. His Glory is in helping other and loving them as you love your self.
