Five Keys to an Effective Multi-Site Church

    Bookmark and Share

    1. A Senior Pastor driven vision for multi-site
In order for a church to truly become one church in many locations multi-site has to be the Senior Leader's passion.
    2. The right campus pastor(s)
No amount of technology, marketing or effort can replace having a leader who embraces the vision and builds the teams to see the vision happen.
    3. The right environment
From location, to worship leaders to children's ministry, effective campuses must create compelling enviroments
    4. Finances that make sense
Jesus said that before building a tower a wise man will count the cost. This is especially true of multiple campuses. Successful multi-site churches have figured out they can sustain the vision.
    5. Stoke the fire
Offsite campuses are like children; they need to be loved, cared for, and encouraged. Site visits, pep talks and all expense paid trips to the central office all help keep the fire burning.

    Your thoughts?

Haven’t posted much on multi-sites for awhile… and I don’t want to let anybody down.  smile  Here’s a great post by Geoff Surratt over at MultisiteRevolution.com on the keys to an effective multi-site church.  Love to hear your thoughts…

I am not sold on this multi-site thing.  I understand it a little bit.  I think you made a list of the pro’s and con’s one time didn’t you Todd?

I am not doubting the intentions just the method.  I still do not understand why they just don’t plant a church.  Can they not find another Pastor who God would call to preach to the new flock?

I would understand it maybe if a churchs sanctuary just was not big enough so some had to meet in the churches FLC or something our church almost did that I am glad they did not.  (We are remodeling our FLC and meeting in it, for fairly cheap I might add)

But these Multi-sites they are primarily not in the same area right?  So again why not plant a church with a different Pastor and help it grow?

However, if God is in it, by all means keep doing.  God can not be limited to just what I am comfortable with.

      Hi Jade,

You can find a lot of articles and discussion including some answers to your “why not just plant a church” question by looking through the multi-site archives:

      Thanks,

I am geteting more and more intrigued by this whole multi-site thing. I was initially totally against it, but I’m not so sure right now. Our church is a great example of one that could do multi-site right, and since I’m the one who brought it up, I end up being the guy whose supposed to educate myself on it.

It’s intriguing. Please keep posting more discussions about it, Todd. Thanks!

I have read those, well at least many you have posted here not all.  Still confused about it.  Tell me what you like about vs. a church plant.  You just came from a big Multi Site convention not too long ago.Why not just plant a church?

I get this funny suspicion in the pit of my stomach that we are going in circles. I see the dark clouds forming Todd. Watch out buddy here it comes.

      Jade,

Greg Surratt answered this earlier in one of his comments (this one was directed at Bernie).  Greg considers MS a type of church plant.  They also DO plant churches the conventional way as well:

Given the fact that 80% of church plants fail, I would say that there has to be an additional avenue to enlarging the kingdom other than planting churches.

(Don’t get me wrong…I am a church planter—and it is going very well for us here at NewSpring.)

And I don’t think it’s fair to say that multi-site’s are cult building and merely attempts to glorify the senior pastor. I have kept up with Seacoast for a while, and contrary to your statements…the kingdom IS being enlarged and leaders ARE being developed.

Just because the sermon isn’t being preached live does not mean that leaders aren’t being discipled my friend. Trust me! And creating a multi-site is easier than planting a church? My question would be, “How would you know—have you done both?”

Seriously dude—don’t go out and attack multi site church planters because it isn’t your preference. These guys are being used by God…and are seeing some great things happen. I know a lot of pastors that are doing multi site—and their agenda is to see God’s kingdom enlarge. Before you criticize a man…get to know his heart.

      Todd,

Ok, I just now read your comments back to me.  What is with your tone.  I was asking honest questions.  Trying to understand.  I am not questioning anyone’s motives.  If you read my posts again I said I am just confused by the method.  I have been involved in to church plants, but never a mulit-site and that was why I was asking the question.  Also i never said the Multi-site was creating a cult where did you get that?  You totally mis-read me all together.  I was asking honest question and instead of trying to help me you told me off?!?!  Why?  That makes no sense.  Not to be sissy Todd but that was un professional.  It would one thing if I was putting people down, but I was not.  It would be a problem if I said these people were sinners, but I did not.  I comment on this post a lot.  I have defended you a lot.  I seen people talk down to people before and you treat them with gentle kindness.  So what gives Man?

I’m offended by how you came it me when I wanted you to help me understand.  I don’t get it, this does not seem like you.

Were you having a bad day or something?

      Please respond.

      Jade,

Let me clarify…  I just posted part of a comment made on another post by Greg.  He was responding to Bernie (who was against multi-site).

So… 1)  These aren’t my words and 2) the only reason I posted them in response to you was because Greg dealt with the subject of church plants vs. multi-site.

The antimosity wasn’t from me and wasn’t meant toward you… rather Bernie (and that for a while back!)

      Sorry for the misunderstanding.

      Todd
