[Q:] What are some challenges your church has faced and how were you able to overcome them?

[A:] Almost every challenge is rooted in a leadership issue. If you have leaders who have vision and the capacity to build teams to see the vision come true then your problems are different than if you do not have the leaders or the leaders you have do not have the vision or the leaders who have the vision do not have the capacity to build the teams to see the vision come true. If you have leaders who have all that capacity, vision and team building ability then your problems are how do you manage the energy of your leaders and establish a sustainable pace for their ongoing success. Of course if you lack the leaders or lack the vision or lack the capacity to build teams then you have different a set of problems. Your problem then is you’ve go the wrong leaders and you need to find new leaders.

[Q:] What’s the biggest challenge for you being the pastor of a megachurch?

[A:] I would say managing my own pace probably challenges me as much as anything. What is common to almost every leader at one level or another and that is you actually gain a strangle hold on what renews your soul and what renews you emotionally and relationally, spiritually. Then you engage in those renew behaviors.

[Q:] What do you think is the secret to the growth in your church and why is it so successful?

[A:] God’s doing something. It’s unusual and wonderful and amazing. I get up every day and I can’t believe that God lets me be here and be part of this. God is just doing an outrageous wonderful work in Michiana and we get to be part of it. That’s why it’s successful.

[Q:] What’s next for Granger Community Church? How do you hope to expand in the future?

[A:] We are currently in a new phase of development securing property in the inner city so that we can engage our ministry to the needy at a deeper level. We’re also expanding our facility here so that we can serve more children in effective age appropriate ways. We have one child in our children’s ministry for every three adults that we have upstairs in the weekend service that’s a lot of children. We want to serve them well, so we’re expanding some of our children’s ministry facility.
