FoxFaith and DirecTV Offer Free Satellite Systems to Churches…

    Bookmark and Share

Movies are like no other art form. It is the one medium you can experience where you can literally lose your identity. You can laugh with a character, cry with them, worry with them. That’s why so many people are so careful about the movies they watch. We understand that as a pastor, there are movies out there that are in parallel with your value system that you may want to support, if you could only see the film before it came out in theaters.

Together, Fox Faith and DirecTV have come up with a solution. We want to give you a chance to see the movie via satellite. If you are a church and want this, they will install a Satellite system in your church for free and give you basic service for free as well. There are no strings attached. We believe this really solves the problem. After you have the satellite, we’ll let you know when the Fox Faith screenings will take place and what channel it will be on. You will be able to view the movie before it comes to theaters over a virtual private network.

    Here’s the link...

So… good idea or terrible one?

    Todd

Did you hear that FoxFaith and DirecTV are offering free satellite receivers to churches so that they can view their faith-based movies before they hit theatres for free. Hmmm... sounds interesting. You can find out a little more here at their website. I'd love to hear your comments on the validity of this marketing plan. (I'm guessing it's going to go over bigtime... as many pastors that I know LOVE getting something for free!)

As long as the movies aren’t about the S**** B***.

This is just another example of the self induced confusion regarding public vs private viewing when it comes to churches…

I signed up for this offer thinking it might be something good. After not receiving an acknowledgement of my request i made a call to the company and was told that yes they had gotten the email signing us up but they did not know how soon they would be responding because they were still working out some of the details. My initital thought was and still is that if you are going to mass mail an offer such as this that everything should be in place and ready to roll.

      Jeff,

LOL funny. Don’t worry, you’re not allowed to make a movie about the “big game”… The Football Police are watching!

In order to help out with any copyright confusion, I emailed them with the following:

Thanks for offering this valuable service. I’m curious if you would please address a few questions I have:

Will the screenings be available for a limited number of viewers (staff) or for the church audience on a regular weekend service?

Will the church have the ability/right to record (DVR included or on another media?) the screening?

Will the church have the right to edit the content for use as a sermon illustration?

Will the church have the right to promote the screening to the community at large or only internally to the congregation or only to staff?

Will the church have the right to use any of the video, audio or images for use in duplication, streaming (online) or archive (offline or online)?

As soon as I have answers, I’ll post them here.

      Trying to be helpful,

      Anthony

      Hi Jeff,

I was wondering about your comment,  specifically about the confusion between public and private viewing.  I think I am one of the confused ones.  Can you add some clarity.

    6. Peter Hamm on Thu, February 08, 2007

Thanks, Anthony. I’ll be curious to see your answers.

I signed up for it, too. We’ve had great success here with screenings in the local theater of Christian films. We have a great guy in our congregation who works hard to make them happen. This could be a great tool in that department.

This just has the potential of crossing every copyright policy that THEY (the entertainment industry lawyers) work so hard to enforce, the questions are endless…

I’m waiting for the answers ANTHONY is asking for to get posted also.

As for subscribing… I would but it would cut into the amount of time I could spend reading MMI…

I just want to know does it get ESPN and HBO and Ultimate Fighting Championship Pay Per View.

    9. Heath on Thu, February 08, 2007

Yes to Leonard’s ultimate fighting thought.  Basically, if it is free, I’ll take it.  Its the prosperity preacher in me http://www.mondaymorninginsight.com/images/smileys/smile.gif

I just got off the phone with the president of Edify Media, the PR firm for FoxFaith. He has answered all of the questions, and I wanted to share them with the MMI list:

Will the screenings be available for a limited number of viewers (staff) or for the church audience on a regular weekend service?

This is the only question they don’t have an answer on yet. Most likely, it will be only for the church staff leadership (limited to one or two people) as they want the leader to then decide if it’s a film they’d like to promote to their church. Again, this is not the official answer as it’s still in process.

Will the church have the ability/right to record (DVR included or on another media?) the screening?

      No.

Will the church have the right to edit the content for use as a sermon illustration?

      No.

Will the church have the right to promote the screening to the community at large or only internally to the congregation or only to staff?

Limited staff only, at the moment.

Will the church have the right to use any of the video, audio or images for use in duplication, streaming (online) or archive (offline or online)?

No. A seperate media kit might be made available, but has not been determined yet.

He told me that FoxFaith would not only say “no” to the duplication, editing or recording of the pre-screen release, but that’s exactly what they don’t want to have happen.

When I receive updated information, I’ll email it directly to Todd so it doesn’t get lost on an old thread.
