Haggard:  If I Ever Started a Church, it Would Be in Colorado Springs…

After all, "I don't think churches compete. Churches complement one another", says Haggard.

For the record, I don't think churches should compete against each other either.  But that's exactly what a new Ted Haggard church in Colorado Springs would attempt to do.  In this case, there's not really any other way to look at it.

Haggard says that for the first time in 2 1/2 years, he is excited about the possibility of re-entering full-time ministry.  And since he can see New Life Church from his house windows, full-time ministry looks like it will happen in the shadow of the church he founded.

Ted also admitted this week for the first time that he actually did use drugs (something he denied until now).

    More here...

My prediction:  Ted will start a new church in Colorado Springs in the next six months.  A small number will follow the man.  But the church Haggard originally founded will flourish like never before.

We'll see how it all works out.

My point is not that Ted is not gifted and called. But with giftedness and calledness comes responsibility to hear and obey God. Whether he is hearing God or not is between Ted and God. If he is doing a “new work” for Ted or God is also between him and God. But if we can not be held accountable by the Body of Christ and grow up because we are “gifted and callled” then we are on very dangerous ground. I love Ted and do want to believe the best about him… but can he submit himself to anyone? Where do his mentors and “restorers” stand on his planting a new church in the shadow of the old one?

I don’t know if it is for us to determine if Ted is gifted or called.  Some believers will undoubtedly say no and some believers will most definitely say yes.  The question we should ask is does he deserve another chance?  Yes.  So do you and so I and so does everyone, even David Letterman…:)

And if Ted’s hearing God is between he and God, how can we call his giftedness and calledness into question?  Wouldn’t it be also, between he and God?  Haggard hasn’t preached a false gospel, at least to my knowledge, I don’t listen to him.  What I do know is that he has preached hypocrisy, or at the very least, he has preached to himself more than his congregation.  If you think about it, so have many in the pulpit.  Food for thought.

      all about Christ,

If a man is your servant, you judge him. Does the body judge the head? Our only ministry is the ministry of reconciliation. Fill in the gaps. CPA’s have a thing they call “GAAP”. If our job (calling) is to reconcile, we need to put in a debit every time there is a credit and a credit every time there is a debit. Keep the thing balanced. We complete each other. Except when we try to do the job belonging to God. Revelation is a part of the church environment. God sets the standards, He will judge them. Freedom of choice permits us the right to go somewhere else when ever we want to. The shepherd will bring us back if he wants to protect us. Who knows the hearts of man? I believe the Spirit can discern even to the thoughts and intents of the sub-conscious.

Where to plant a church aside, this whole thing sounds like arrogance to me. I wouldn’t want any part of it.
