Jack T. Chick:  This Was Your Life

Could it be? Could Jesus have a dislike for those "little tracks that people leave on toilet seats?" Hmmm... here's an interesting parody of the famous Chick tracks that many of us love to hate...

I am speechless and don’t know what to say.  ROTFL

Does he really have a pony tail?  I would have thought he’d be the last person to have one - too rebellious and hippy-like… I’ve kinda got a rule - bald people shouldn’t wear pony tails.  At least it’s a rule for me!

Anyway, “This Was Your Life” was the first exposure to the gospel I ever had, at about 7 or 8 years old, and it had a profound effect on me.

I can’t stand 99.999999% of what he does, but at least in this one case, God used it.

But God can even use the preaching of the gospel by people who don’t really love Christ and only want to cause trouble (Phil. 1).

Will he be in the same place as the wackos from Westboro Baptist Church?

I have used those tracts very effectively over the years…. and they do get read. In spite of the off the wall tracts and magazines, I wouldn’t be so bold as to sentence him to hell, even if it was suppose to be a parody.

Hell isn’t something to joke about.

Yeah, the pony-tail got me, too. This guy needs to listen to the sermon on “hairology” by the “Upper” G.I. Barber…

I have to admit I was a little confused about “little tracks that people leave on toilet seats”.  Then I realized “OH, he meant TRACTS, not tracks…”  Made me laugh on a Friday. http://www.mondaymorninginsight.com/images/smileys/smile.gif

I agree with you Chet, even if it is a parody, Hell isn’t something to joke about.

I’m sure those tracts have been good for others.  They’ve always made me laugh.

I love the gang over at The Door.  Their satire does what good satire should:  provoke thought and dialog.  All Christians should carefully consider how we represent Jesus to the world - tracts included.

Those Chick Publication tracts would be more effective if they would stick to simple evangelism.  Unfortunately, Chick tied the Pope to Hitler (and other far-fetched conspiracies) and appeared to go off the deep end.  No telling where he’ll stop.  These conspiracy theories did more to damage his reputation among believers than anything else.  What a shame, unbelievers will look at these tracts and laugh at Christians, when in fact, we have the words of Life!   Jn.6:68

While I am no fan of Chick tracts, doing a parody in which Jack Chick gets sent to hell just doesn’t seem funny to me.  Hmm, maybe it’s because of “jokes” and alleged “social commentary” such as the Chick Tract parody that led me to stop reading The Door over 10 years ago.

“doing a parody in which Jack Chick gets sent to hell just doesn’t seem funny to me”

Seems to me to be pretty appropriate though with all the people that Jack has depicted going to Hell.

      Appropriate?

Hmmm… that comment brings to mind Gandhi’s quote, “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.”

I realize that many Christians like “The Door,” because they’re not afraid to touch difficult subjects and they’re not afraid to raise controversy, and I applaud any publication, Christian or otherwise for doing so.  However, that being said, I’m old enough and mature enough to recognize that to simply be loud, outspoken, controversial, etc, doe not necessarily make someone prophetic.  While I can certainly picture the Old Testament prophets and or Jesus condemning someone to hell, I certainly can not picture the O.T. prophets or Jesus as making fun of someone going to hell.

except that I think y’all may be forgetting (or at the very least not appreciating) one of the main points of satire, which is to point out the satirist’s opinion of deficiencies and flaws in the subject. imho, this “humor” points out the gravest deficiency in the Chick tracts. Is it offensive? Well, satire often is, when it is effective.

    14. DanielR (a different Daniel) on Tue, April 10, 2007

Oh, get a sense of humor.  Given that many sites featuring Chick’s cartoons are blocked by my network as “Hate Speech”, I think the satire is rather funny.

Is it funny that some people will reject Jesus Christ and will go to hell?  No, it’s not funny but it is a fact.  And I suspect that if Jack Chick were in charge of deciding who goes to heaven and who goes to hell, he’d be saving fewer and sending a lot more people to hell.

“Oh, get a sense of humor”

I think I’ll get my laughter from something other than joking about someone going to hell, thanks.
