Wonder if anyone will try to do this here after the election yesterday!  smile

According to a New Zealand newspaper, the leader of Destiny Church says plans are underway to create a self-contained "Destiny City" for its followers in the middle of South Auckland.

Self-styled Bishop Brian Tamaki made the announcement at the church's 10th birthday conference, held over the weekend. Mr Tamaki said donations of more than $2.4 million had already been collected for the creation of the city.

"Every child of every member of this church will never go to a state school again," Mr Tamaki said. He urged the church's 7000-plus members to sell their homes and move to his city "for the purpose of God".

No one lights a lamp and then hides it, no they set it on a lamp stand so all can enjoy its light.  Crazy if you ask me.

Those who don’t understand History are bound to repeat it. This idea has already been tried and FAILED. The city of Zion, IL (a Chicago suburb just south of the Wisconsin Border) was founded with similar motives. It is now a place with high crime, strong gang activity and struggling schools while being in one of the wealthiest counties of Illinois.

Sounds a little like a cult in a church suit to me!

Yeah, I thought of Jonestown too…

In this city will be a beautiful Kool-Aid river from which all the citizens can drink…

How can we be on mission and be removed from culture?

Set up a theme park.  Offer competitive admission rates, and staple tracts to their tickets.

After all, who WOULDN’T pay to ride a swan-boat-thingy on that beautiful river of Kool-Aid?  http://www.mondaymorninginsight.com/images/smileys/tongue_wink.gif

Be in the world not of it.

Not… be separated from the world and have no impact there…

imho… This is what it looks like… just plain stupid.

Peter is right.  We live in this world, even if we are not /of/ this world.

How can we put forward the word as we are called upon to do if we are isolated.

      And ya… Jonestown.  Eek.

I especially thought of Jonestown particularly since I watched CNN’s documentary last night on it.  New Zealander’s, beware….

I thought of Jonestown, too—immediately.  I even wondered if it was a coincidence or not that I was reading this the day after I watched the documentary.

WARNING—not coincidence!  Nothing is coincidence with Adonai

“The Church” has effectively removed itself from modern culture already. It speaks christianeze, perforems strange rites and rituals, and encourages its followers to stop associating with folks who are different.

some are already full of home school Nazis who rather than teach thier children to be a light in the darkness, wish not to contemplate the possiblity that their progeny might possibly be tainted by worldly people.

People outside already see most churches as islands unto themselves full of people who think they are better than others.

If the witness of religious people is removed from the world, then true followers of Christ might be enabled to take the message of grace, mercy, and freedom into the darkness and see others excitedly continue to live in the world and invite others to a new life where Christ is Lord and man is not.

I say let them cloister. It seems they already have.
