...what a wonderful world this would be.

Seth Godin this morning had a really great piece on email: what, when, why, and how to use it. There are 36 items on his list. Here are a few of my favorites:

    20. Have I included the line, "Please save the planet. Don't print this email"? (If so, please delete the line and consider a job as a forest ranger or flight attendant).

    21. Could this email be shorter?

    26. Am I forwarding someone else's mail? (If so, will they be happy when they find out?)

    29. Did I hit 'reply all'? If so, am I glad I did? Does every person on the list need to see it?

    36. If I had to pay 42 cents to send this email, would I?

For the full list, you'll have to head over to Seth's blog, which you can find here...

      Number 13 is the best.

Am I angry? (If so, save as draft and come back to the note in one hour).

I have my email messages set up with a delay, so when I hit the “Send” button, it doesn’t actually go out for another two minutes.  It’s amazing how much more clearly you can think after hitting the Send button.  The built-in delay has allowed me to retrieve a number of messages before they went out, either to scrap the message, make some necessary changes, or add a forgotten attachment.

Yeah, if only I had read this email about 1 minute sooner.  I just replied to someone’s email and included all of their recipients.  One of whom is one of my bosses in my part time gig.

I did send another email to all of those people about the random email that went out before that.  In 15 years or something like that of email use, I’ve never done that.  Not sure what happened. Now I feel like a dork. Ah well.
