    Revival at the Crystal Cathedral?

Then Schuller, with the help of four other pastors and a “candy dish” of water, walked from person to person who had moved to the front, crying while baptizing them and going on to the next one. The spontaneous response went on for 30 minutes, and then continued in the next service. In all, between 500 to 800 people were estimated to have made first time, or recommitments to Christ.

After undergoing some difficult times of late, the church had reportedly been praying for the congregation and the community, though not necessarily for revival. Schuller candidly adds, “Our congregation and church keeps saying, ‘Okay, where do we go from here?’ I’m not exactly sure. But I think the Holy Spirit will assist me in the doing the right thing.”

“I don’t want to make grandiose claims; I’m not a prophet,” said Richard Mouw, president of Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, who spoke with Schuller the next morning. “But I think it is a sign that in God’s own sovereign goodness, he sends these moments to remind us that we are all sinners and reaches out to us in surprising ways. This is something the Christian community in general, and particularly the evangelical community, needs to take very seriously.”

From a personal note:  I had the opportunity to see the Evil Knievel testimony, and he really does appear to be a man changed by Jesus.  It was really a remarkable story.  And I can say from watching the service and the people coming forward that something was definitely going on in the hearts and minds of the people.  Can this be the start of revival at the Crystal Cathedral?  Only God knows… but I, for one, am encouraged that God is seemingly working in unexpected was in this very influential church in America.

On Palm Sunday, over 500 people either committed or re-committed their lives to Christ after hearing the testimony of Evil Knievel at the Crystal Cathedral, according to a report from Christianity Today. According to the report, Robert Schuller, Jr. (who took over last year for his retired father) could see from the people's reactions to Knievel's testimony that this would be no ordinary service. Deviating from the normally highly-scripted service, Schuller asked for those who wanted to receive the message of Christ and be baptized to come forward...

Am I wrong to think that Rober Jr. is more traditional in his theology then his father was?  It appears to me that this is the case, anyone have any insight?

I don’t have any insight to jr. but I lived next door to sr’s chauffer.

And when he had his accident, he really did take a big turn back to his roots, which were clearly evangelical.  Living that close to CC, we saw many solid ministries that bore fruit, even though there were many things that went on in the service that bothered us.  Their youth ministry, missions and senior ministries led many to the Lord during that time.  (20 years ago now).

So, I would guess, that jr. would at least have the basics of Christianity down, having grown up in that youth ministry.  And I’m happy to hear this!  The neighborhood that CC is in, desperately needs revival.  There is much poverty and urban type crime in that area of Garden Grove.  So, it’s exciting to see God working there.

I’ve been an Evel Knievel fan my whole life.  I’m thrilled to hear about his conversion!

And just how he describes talking to the devil is an indication that it’s for real.

“But I think the Holy Spirit will assist me in the doing the right thing.”

      Um, Who’s serving who here?

Maybe that’s nitpicking, but I find the wording to be interesting.

To me the biggest concern that I have is will these new converts be discipled in the faith?

How many times have we seen people walk down the aile and then never see them again. Don’t get me wrong this excites me that God moved so richly in the hearts of those in attendence that Sunday. But the task has just begun in discipling thier lives to live for Jesus. I just hope that these people see that the Christian faith is so much more than saying a “sinner’s prayer”, but a commitment to live daily for Jesus.

Bro. Paul, I agree—it’s the start of their faith walk, and how blessed we are to get them started and join them on their journey.  I believe we have to get them in and give them His Word, baptise/confirm, and make available to them ways to know Christ, and grow in faith and serve others.  If we just get them in the door and then drop the ball, bad on us.

As a blood bought, bible believing evangelical preacher of some 25 years, there were times of semi-depression where the only place His voice could get through to me was through “daddy”
