Say a Little Prayer Before Sex…

From the UK Telegraph:  A special prayer to help couples "purify their intentions" is one of a number set out in the Prayer Book for Spouses.

It adds: "Open our hearts to you, to each other and to the goodness of your will".

The 64-page book, sold for £1.95, has been published by the London-based Catholic Truth Society, which has links to the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales.

The Rt Rev Paul Hendricks, who is the Auxiliary Bishop of Southwark, told the Daily Mail: “'It is important for the Church to affirm the value of marriage and family life and I suppose this is a particular way of doing that.

“Perhaps it is something that has not been tried, certainly for a while – I can't remember seeing something like that before.”

The book contains prayers for every stage of marriage and family life, including engagement, planning for parenthood, pregnancy and caring for children and elderly parents.

What do you think?  My first thought?  This prayer was written by a woman.  smile

Praying before sex? How about during?

Seriously, people, in the onfines of marriage it’s a holy act!

    2. Dan Smith on Mon, September 14, 2009

It is true that this is a wonderful blessed act from God, but I don’t know where we’re told to pray before sex in the Bible. I don’t, and God is still blessing us, so I wonder why the author of that book wants it in there. Bad experiences?

      Dan Smith:

“It is true that this is a wonderful blessed act from God, but I dont know where were told to pray before sex in the Bible. I dont, and God is still blessing us, so I wonder why the author of that book wants it in there. Bad experiences?”

It’s not a mandate from the Bible, nor should it be expressed as a biblical requirement, because that would be legalism.  However, is praying before sex a wise or good thing to do?  I would say, “Yes,” and here’s why.

During that act of intimacy, there are many occasions where sin and temptation could try to, “climb into bed.”  Although we are told in the Bible that the marriage bed is undefiled, it is possible to have something like a lustful thought or an action that is not loving try to afflict our minds or actions.  The stain of sexual sin can leave lasting effects in a relationship, and it is good to ask God to help prevent that from entering the bedroom.

Besides, if both people are believers, it’s all for the glory of God anyway, right?  =)

I wonder is saying “Oh God” during sex would be considered praying.

Interesting concept. Prayer is talking to God. I know he is pleased with Sex because HE created it. Do we have to remind God that what we are about to do is his will or not? I don’t think so, especially when his will is clearly revealed in this area. But the thought is provoking: where do we draw the line between appropriate and unapproapriate behavior during sex? Are we honoring one another as we honor God? Ofcourse I am talking about married couples! not casual sex.

I thought of some things to ask in prayer at that time, but decided just to say that this is totally ridiculous!

Once, again, this is mankind using religion to play God.  Two Christian people trusting God on the basis of Proverbs 3:5,6 and living only to please him, will be together in his name, and the Holy Spirit will lead and teach them accordingly.  Some of these Holier than Thou socalled High Priests of God need to be behind the veil with bells on their ankles, and later, they are prone in a dead state of being because they were not true high priests, which means God demoted them.

In all seriousness, if a couple is going to pray before sex, why not pray that they will satisfy one another so that no one is tempted to stray and break their union?  Just being practical…

      Travis,
Saying Oh God during sex is taking God’s name in vain.

Im joking, Also i hope this doesn’t get deleted. But we all know God doesn’t like 30 sec. prayers. Sorry I couldn’t resist please don’t ban me.

Yes, praying before sex is wonderful thing/practice. As couples approaching holy act which allowed by God and designed since creation, is good to start with prayers: one, thanking God for giving you your beautiful/handsome partner whom you you enjoy being with her/him and secondly expecting to have lovely experiences from your partiner. Above all, peace and love which you expect in sex are fruits of Holy Spirit. With prayers you welcome God, Jesus and Holy Spirit to be with you and bless you in that wonderful actions. Be blessed.
