Should Seventh Day Adventists Eat Crab?

OK... call me late to the party... but I had no idea that Seventh Day Adventists were opposed to eating crab... and it's stirring a great deal of controversy...

Don't believe me?  Then watch this video put out by the 'pro-crab-meat-eating-people' withing the Seventh Day Adventist Church... a little ditty called:  "I've got a mouthful of crabs".

    Wow... any thoughts?

That’s one of the goofiest things I’ve seen in a long time.  I can’t figure out if it’s a joke or not.  The scripture is very plain, but the video and the song o.0

I’m not sure it’s the best way to present their case if indeed this is truth and not some goofy joke.

The blood part along the ground is…  wow.  Heh.

I won’t attempt to exegete all of the texts used but just a casual
look at Acts 10:13 in its context reveals that Peter was not to “call any man common or unclean”. This has nothing to do with unclean food. In fact, Peter years after the cross said, he had nver eaten anything unclean.
And several of the texts in Cor. have to do with food offered to idols,
not whether they werre clean or unclean.
1Tim4:5 is used several times; personally I can’t find where God’s word sanctifies unclean food. I know some interpret it that way
but when God says something is an abomination I personally need more clarification from Him in His Word then badly exegeted proof texts.
      Sincerely,

If Adventists are going to live by rules & regulations, then they should abide by what their leaders set down.  As for crab, that leaves more for the rest of us.

The admonition against shell fish is purposeful, not religious. Shell fish are the cleaners of the ocean. If all Judeo-Christian people followed the OT scriptures, none of us would be eating shell fish. Just a thought.

Yes, but also none of us would be eating bacon and do we really want a world like that?

    6. rbud on Mon, September 21, 2009

Jeremy, cute retort, but I don’t eat bacon generally. I do like shell fish, however. Maybe you and I should trade menus.

On a more serious note, just how different would be the world if we didn’t have bacon (or shell fish) to eat? Is it the world we want, or the world God wants? Rhetorical imponderable.

That would actually work because I think shell fish is disgusting.

What would the world look like if we traded things we were permitted to eat or do for what is really better? I don’t know what is scarier: The fact that I continually choose my liberty over what is best for me or the fact that I scarcely consider honoring God to my utmost. Probably the latter.
