    The “Big Dream” Challenge

“I would like to coordinate humanitarian projects, build a few hospitals in Africa, provide medical products and care wherever needed.”

“God has been pushing me to plant a community located in the heart of where we find young adults of all walks of life - but specifically the un-churched and de-churched; agnostics, atheists, and disenfranchised or disenchanted. And where are they? The local bar of course…I’m excited! And your post got me thinking that it’s okay to dream big. No, I have to dream bigger than what I’ve been dreaming before. “If you plan to reach 50, why not 500?” Perfect!”

Another’s goal is to start a church in every YMCA in America!  Another’s dream is starting a ministry to minister to prisoners upon their release.  Yet another is working on a virtual classroom to reach people that are currently not being reached.

Thanks for dreaming with me.  I look forward to what will happen in the Kingdom in the near future because of YOUR dream!

    Todd

Last week, I wrote about how my dreams for God’s Kingdom were too small. I (cleverly) said that my dreams were Todd-sized rather than God-sized. I challenged each of you to think through your ministry goals to make sure you were dreaming big enough.

I received a lot of feedback and wanted to share some of it with you this week.

One person wrote of his own personal experience with dreams: “All my life I have "super sized" my efforts with the intent to exceed my own expectations while attempting to feed my hunger to accomplish all that God put me on this earth to achieve. I look back and see where my efforts were often self absorbed but still always loaded to the brim with a "grab it and growl" mindset. Now days, I look to the Holy Spirit for counsel and then I grab what is in alignment with both my attitude and my aptitude and I step up and step out with an unquenchable fire that burns within to exponentially grow Christian service to all of God's people.”

Some of you shared your individual dreams with me. Great stuff, like:

What’s great about this post is that maybe someone can come up with a way that we can fund some of our dreams, say starting at $10 or so per blogger!  I for one have a burden for ministry for prisoners on their release, too, especially juvenile offenders. Many of the incarcerated get enlightened by Christian volunteers and then relapse after going back to the same home life without any spiritual mentors.  I don’t have their vision, but I would consider it a blessing to be part of a financial team like that.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels like they wish they could accomplish something big for the Kingdom but would need the help of others, or would merely like to help others in their exciting endeavors.

My personal big dreams are to have childcare education mandatory for middle and/or high schools to help prevent child abuse, and helpful literature given to every child born in a hospital.

My next dream is to have a community-wide praise and worship with all the best talent in the area for all denominations, outdoors preferably (for all the ‘world’ to see!) It would not be on one particular church’s property, and may be on Pentecost - even though my own church does not recognize that day.  We need to bridge that huge gap between believers.  Since I’ve attended almost all churches of every kind in my city, I’ve seen the best of the best and know that there are wonderful worshippers, worship leaders, musicians, and preachers in every main-line Christian denomination.  I’ve even raised my hands in a few bible-believing Catholic charismatic groups.  We can all help teach and reach each other this way.  Please, Lord, help these come true - even if in my own church.  Perhaps some of you out there may want to do likewise in your communities!

This is so where I am right now and I’m excited to read that you are thinking about dreaming big dreams.

I found myself saying this yesterday to a carload of women, that my dream was to see our valley come to Christ… we are a place that sees the world at our doors.  Financial moguls visit here, Hollywood, and politicians, wouldn’t it be cool to be seeing some of these people come to Christ and to be sending them out into the world to lead others?

But what can WE do?  Little church on the south side, with hardly any resources, sitting in this place of potential influence?

Our dream is to make a list of people of influence in our valley that we will commit to praying for.

We are going to meet once a month and share and pray together, while we pray weekly at home.

I don’t know what God will do… but wouldn’t it be the coolest to see an awakening of the Spirit of God in a godless place like where I live?

So there’s our dream, thanks for sharing where your heart is Todd!

I’m excited to see what happens here and I know it’s a God sized dream that can only happen by His Spirit.  And I can’t wait!

Dream big!  Thanks Jan and May.  I am a dreamer and always felt call to preach and to encourage pastors.  Over the years I have been so privelaged to travel and speak to thousands of leaders and pastors.  In India.  What a trip that God ha a bigger dream than I did.  I just finished doing a breakout at THRIVE, a leadership conference in Granite Bay, CA Again this is my 5th year of speaking here and being able to encourage hundreds of pastors and leaders.

While at this conference I was asked if I would consider speaking at some crusades in Africa and training local pastors.  In every situation, God has opened doors through relationships and faithfully stepping though doors.

My grandpa used to tell me that if I was too big to be in a little place I was too little to be in a big place.  What I am saying is that there are people out there doing what you are dreaming.  Find them, serve them.  See how God opens doors.
