Running low on time this morning... got lots to do... so here's the latest buzz. These are things that I think you'll want to check out today...
These are listed, as always, over at ToddRhoades.com in the left hand news feed. Some people love the new site; others loathe it (because it is flash oriented)... but the deal is... the newest links will always be listed there first... so check that out. Does it cause you to change your routine and go to another site (yes... an actual site, not an RSS reader)... but hopefully you'll indulge me and do it anyway. (smile). Somebody called the new site the "Drudge Report" of ministry sites... I can handle that... as long as you go there as often as I check out Drudge each day! Anyway... I'm rambling at this point. Here's the links:
How to make your church guest friendly
I always feel like... somebody's watching me
10 stupid things the keep churches from growing
It's an epidemic: Mad Church Disease (video)
Andy Stanley Podcast: Liberating your systems
One Prayer 2009
And todays' Daily Diversion... not for the faint of heart... or those who like potty humor: Fun with Robert Tilton

Hmmm… All the links go to toddrhoades.com is this on accident?

I don’t mind the flash, but I do wish there was a mobile version.

The links seem to be messed up on this page.
One of the reasons Drudge is so successful is the page is so simple. This all flash site is anything but, and I’m sad to say but I really do ignore all links to it. Everytime I decide to try again because something sounds interesting, it turns out I can’t find it anyway and I’m not willing to pay the time penalty to try and figure out the site (much less allowing the flash to load).

You’re kiling me with the redirect links. I don’t wanna quit you, but please….

I hardly ever comment…sorry to make one of my few comments negative.
I read MMI every day via a newsreader. I clicked over to your other site the first time you did it, and that’ll probably be the last. A few reasons:
1. I read all the blogs that I follow on a newsreader in my iPhone. Your new site not work on it because of flash
2. It seems a bit silly to have to go through 2 clicks to follow a news story. Not sure why you’d do it this way except to try and build traffic for your new site…but why? It doesn’t seem to offer much different than this site
3. One of the benefits if reading blogs is convenience ( with RSS readers - see it all in one place). It’s just become inconvenient to follow news stories on MMI
Just my personal experience and opinion, for what it’s worth

Ack!
Your new site is awful. A site should NEVER… EVER… EVER… be Flash based.
Use flash sparingly. It isn’t good for the blind, it isn’t good for slower connection speeds, it sucks for people like me that disable flash by default.
If post like this are the future, then MMI is in my past.

I have not been able to read one of the links provided yet. Since so much is there it is kind of frustrating.

Seems that I’m tickin’ people off, and it’s tickin’ me off. http://www.mondaymorninginsight.com/images/smileys/smile.gif
Sorry that some of you don’t like the new site. It was something I had fun putting together over Christmas.
(It’s free, by the way)
Sorry some of you don’t like flash.
Sorry some of you will go away an never come back. (I’ve gotten several emails and comments to that effect). It’s been nice having you.
Sorry I asked you to go to an actual website rather than exclusively using an RSS feed or Google Reader.
Sorry that you had to click twice to see a link, or that your slow connection or old computer wouldn’t load the site.
I really wasn’t trying to tick you off. Really.
I was trying to offer more in less time. The new news feed literally takes me seconds to add links and offer more really good and interesting stuff. In short… it was convenient for me.
But not evidently for you all. And that’s fine.
I’ll find a work around… in the mean time, it means that there will be less stuff here.
I’m glad we all don’t leave churches as quick as we threaten to leave blogs.

Todd,
I’m not trying to “pile on” with the complaints, but I’m just a little confused. I clicked on one of the links, which took me to your new site, then found that link again and clicked on it, which took me back to this post. I’m not sure what’s going on, but I can’t get to the actual article…
Also, perhaps you could explain a little bit more about why you are creating a new site. Are you planning on doing away with MMI and transitioning completely to the new one?
Hope you’re “enjoying” the snow as much as I am here in Northwest Ohio! http://www.mondaymorninginsight.com/images/smileys/wink.gif

Thanks, Nora,
Bottom line… I wanted an easy, seamless way to add links that I come across. I tossed over a thousand really good links last year that I found that I just didn’t have time to blog about.
So… when I picked up the ToddRhoades.com domain last year after some ballet dancer dude named Todd Rhoades let it expire, I thought this would be a good place to post them, given that I didn’t want to make MMI too much more complicated.
But… I started playing around with this sprout (flash) maker, and thought… man, this is cool. I can pull in all kinds of stuff here… it’s all dynamic, slick, cool, and I don’t know of any other website that is compiling all this information.
What I thought was gonna be simply got bloated.
And say what you want about the new site, it brings together a tremendous amount of great stuff from around the web, whether it be twitter, rss feeds, video, etc. It’s almost totally dynamic, which means that I really don’t do anything to keep it updated. Which seemed like a dream come true.
And to be totally balanced… I’ve probably received as many emails from people saying the LOVE it as I have saying they HATE it… but there is a large enough group that can’t seem to make it work, or are not willing to give it a continued try.
It’s not my intent to shut down or divert MMI… but to manage my time better. Doesn’t look like that’s gonna be possible without a complete MMI re-design (which is something I was trying to avoid).
Anyway… that’s the scoop.

My only complaint is that you’re missing a hyphen today.
I thought that “how to make a church guest friendly” meant that we’re going to find a novel way to deal with the curmudgeon guest.
What a surprise when the article was about making a church “guest-friendly”.
I’d give you my two cents’ opinion on using flash-based website, but since you aren’t asking me for money as you slave away to create the website in the first place, I’ll just humbly say thanks for your work.
If I’m interested enough in something you’ve posted, I’ll figure out how to get there.
Now, if you’d just find something about dealing with that curmudgeon visitor.

Hey guys, go easy on my pal Todd Rhoades re: his new website. He’s trying something new and different. He’s asking for feedback not an a**-kickin’. I love the new site but if you don’t—just like cable tv—you can always change the channel, as some of you have made it clear you have done.
Todd Rhoades on Wed, January 14, 2009

Todd,
You have a very loyal readership… I’m sure several of your readers have mad web skills that would be more than willing to help you mock up new designs and get things together for you.
And it wasn’t meant to be piling on or harsh, but a purely flash based website is flawed from every aspect.
The beauty of DrudeReport is its simplicity. What would make the drudge report even better? An official, and accurate RSS feed.

Clearly you are a bad person for using flash and forcing an extra click.
