    Hotels with Earplugs?
Just got back from a wonderful family vacation in Myrtle Beach.  We had a great time (even though it was the middle of the big heat wave in that area of the country).  We actually drove back through 106 degree temperatures on the way home.  We did the beach thing (which was great); went to Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede (say what you want to about Dolly, but she’s a brilliant businesswoman), and ended everything in Cleveland, watching the Indians get thumped on by the Yankees.  (OK, that wasn’t so fun).  Anyway, we stayed in a mid-priced hotel suite for one night on the way back and I noticed something a little strange.  In the bathroom, right next to the complimentary shampoo and soap, was a pair of complimentary ear plugs.  “Strange”, I thought to myself.  Until at 1:00 in the morning a train blew it’s whistle less than 100 feet from our back window.  Funny… there was no mention of that when I made my reservation or checked in.  Guess they thought the free earplugs (one pair for six people by the way) would more than make up for it.  (It didn’t).

    Churches with Earplugs?
OK… this one I think I could handle:  According to Damion Pirolli, Production Manager at Elevation church:  “At Elevation we like our music loud! We believe the music should be loud, but not painful. Each week we try hard to achieve that balance, however for some people the volume level is something they are not used to experiencing. We want people to feel the music. We started to get several emails each week asking us to turn the volume down, we decided that turning the volume down would compromise the culture of Elevation. Desiring to want to reach people that did not enjoy their music as loud as we do, we decided to provide free earplugs to anyone that wants them.  We decided to have fun with this, and provide an earplug dispensing station. We tell people that we are not turning the music down, but they can plug their ears.” You can see a picture of their dispenser above…

That’ll Teach You To Keep Up With Me!
A San Antonio pastor and an employee of his Christian boot camp were arrested Friday on aggravated assault charges, accused of dragging a girl behind a van after she failed to keep up during a running exercise.  Investigators with the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office arrested Charles E. Flowers, 46, shortly before noon at the Faith Outreach Center in northwest San Antonio… Authorities said both Flowers and another man restrained the girl June 12, tying her to the back of a van with a piece of rope before dragging her on her stomach at the Love Demonstrated Ministries’ boot camp in Banquete, about 10 miles west of Corpus Christi.  Did you catch the name of the ministry?) A spokesman for the police department said “Obviously force was used, but the big question is whether or not it exceeded the force permitted by the parents,” Bailey said, adding camp officials said they had permission slips from parents that allowed them to discipline their children.  (HuH!!?) Reaching People in Their Cars
Kent at ChurchRelevance.com has a great post about reaching people in their cars.  Kent writes:  “This Saturday, The Wall Street Journal discussed the United States’ failing infrastructure of highways. They concluded their article with a number of statistics, one of which I found particularly interesting.  Americans spent an average of 81 minutes behind the wheel everyday in 2001.  I believe that how people spend their time gives great insight into their culture and how to reach them. Think about it. The average American spends 5.6% of his or her day sitting in a car.  Since this is equivalent to almost an hour and a half each day, radio commercials are likely to still be an effective medium to reach the unchurched in your community. Of course, if you do use radio commercials to try to reach the unchurched, be sure that you air them on radio stations that they will actually to be listening to, which is not likely to be Christian stations.” Something to really think about. Very Cool.

    The Buzz This Week...
I’m traveling a lot in the next three weeks or so, so the postings will be a little more spread out; and there will probably not be a lot of these daily ‘buzz’ features.  Hopefully by the end of this month, things will slow down a little bit.

    Made me think...
“Love Without Agenda” wrote:  “So a fundamentalist and an emergent walk into a bar and the fundamentalist thanks God he’s not like the emergent sinner.” (Fundamentalist has such a different connotation and meaning than it did 20 years ago… this author was referencing the “Slice” type crowd in his comments.  Made me think.

It's been over a week since my self-imposed 'blog fast' (and vacation)... so I've collected a lot of things to share over the next week or so. Here's the first batch of things that include earplugs; facebook; and a church camp that really is a drag...
