    Do You Have Hope?
Being a church leader can seem nearly hopeless sometimes.  Perry helps us all out with five reasons he has hope.  I think reading it will give you some additional hope as well.

A Rebuttal on my Microsoft:  What Microsoft Could Learn from the Church...
Here’s a pretty good rebuttal to my Monday story on Microsoft.

    Nebraska State Senator Sues God
The defendant in a state senator’s lawsuit is accused of causing untold death and horror and threatening to cause more still. He can be sued in Douglas County, the legislator claims, because He’s everywhere. State Sen. Ernie Chambers sued God last week. Angered by another lawsuit he considers frivolous, Chambers says he’s trying to make the point that anybody can file a lawsuit against anybody. Chambers says in his lawsuit that God has made terroristic threats against the senator and his constituents, inspired fear and caused “widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth’s inhabitants.” More here. Whatever.

I’m Having a Little Trouble Understanding The Reasoning Behind This Multi-Site...
Pastor Jentezen Franklin is an up and coming mega-church pastor in Gainesville, GA.  He has a new book out, and his GA Free Chapel church is growing.  So recently, his church opened a brand new satellite location… not in Oakwood or Flowery Branch, GA.  Not even in relatively close Atlanta.  The new location is actually in Orange County, CALIFORNIA.  According to their website, Franklin and the team would be ministering personally each weekend.  (UPDATE:  That disclaimer has now been taken down… maybe Franklin won’t be hopping on a plane every Sunday after the AM Gainesville service in time to make the 6PM Orange Country Service after all.) OK… here’s my question.  What thoughts go through your head when opening your second campus in Orange County?  Even if a facility was donated, what would the overhead on flying your team to and from OC every Sunday look like?  Did anyone in Gainesville say… hey… let’s take a look at this a little closer?  It’s hard to tell from the website whether or not the new service is up and going yet.  Maybe someone from Free Chapel can tell us more.  I’m not casting judgment at all; I’m just saying it seems like a weird choice for a second site.

John MacArthur and Doug Pagitt on Yoga…
OK… call me a fuddy duddy; but is there not more important things to deal with in our fight for truth than whether or not people do yoga?  Watch this interview.  I think Johnny Mac is a little too stuffed shirt; and Doug Pagitt is a little too fru fru (ok, Doug Pagitt actually commented below, and didn’t like being called fru fru.  I don’t blame him.  In all honesty, fru fru wasn’t really the word I was looking for early this morning!) smile

MacArthur admits that Christians who do it really aren’t being hurt and aren’t calling on other Gods; so what’s the big deal?  Take a look:

I think, maybe they could both take a lesson from this guy… who seems TOTALLY rational:

    glumbert - Laughing at Yoga

    That’s it for today!

    Have a great one!

    Todd

In today's buzz, you'll find hope (at least a little). Plus, what Microsoft could learn from the church; a Nebraska state senator sues God; a new multi-site church in Orange County; and John MacArthur and Doug Pagitt debate, of all things... yoga...

Jentezen Franklin has been doing that service for a few months now. My dad attended the first two. It is an existing church with Sunday morning services, and Franklin and his team fly in to do a Sunday evening service. My head is spinning just thinking about it!

    2. Todd Rhoades on Wed, September 19, 2007

Thanks for that input, Chris.  An existing church?  That’s interesting.  Man, that’s got to be exhausting on so many levels.  Two that come to the top of my head:

      1.  It’s got to be extremely draining.  It sounds like fun for a couple weeks… you know… hoping on the plane, doing a service in Southern CA, hopping back.  But I bet that’d get old (at least with me) REAL quick.

      2.  It’s got to be extremely expensive.  I would assume that they’d have to charter a plane (unless they own their own).  Either way (or if they just fly commercial), it’s got to be hard on the pocketbook.

Seacoast could probably open a new satellite a week at that rate.  http://www.mondaymorninginsight.com/images/smileys/smile.gif

Too Fru Fru, who you call’n Fru Fru? ;0)

    4. Todd Rhoades on Wed, September 19, 2007

Sorry, Doug.  http://www.mondaymorninginsight.com/images/smileys/smile.gif  Fru Fru was all I could come up with that early in the morning.

Todd, did you leave something off after “Macarthur admit…”?

    6. Doug Pagitt on Wed, September 19, 2007

And, this is so last weeks news.

    7. Todd Rhoades on Wed, September 19, 2007

Why, yes… reGeN, I did… that post makes absolutely no sense without the rest of what I wrote.

Sorry, Doug… maybe this will put things (and my writing) in a little more context.

And yes, it is kind of old news… but just the thought of having two pastors on CNN to discuss yoga is kinda funny to me.

    8. Doug Pagitt on Wed, September 19, 2007

it is not only funny to you, it is totally silly to me.

When they made contact about this segments they said their would be four people, two pastors, a hindu who works for common connection and a yoga instructor.

Then two hours before they told me it was just me and John.

And the strangest part is that it was done on September 11, like there was not other news to cover that day.

But everyone has to make a living including the people who have to produce a tv show everyday.

    9. Todd Rhoades on Wed, September 19, 2007

It coulda been worse… it coulda been you, John, and Ingrid.  http://www.mondaymorninginsight.com/images/smileys/smile.gif

      Yoga schmoga.

I think Doug, you might not be thinking critically enough about the subject, but I can’t be sure, and John, I think you’re making a mountain out of a molehill…

Now, onto the mission… (A statement I know that Doug would agree with and I’m not sure about John…)

    11. DanielR (a different Daniel) on Wed, September 19, 2007

Great thoughts from Perry.  Cool rebuttal.  The multi-site thing is puzzling, the yoga this is silly, and the lawsuit is sad.  But, hey, at least the goofy senator got it right that if you’re going to sue God you can do it anywhere because God IS everywhere.

    12. mike b on Mon, September 24, 2007

Did anyone notice the flowing brook, wonderful landscape and the weeds next to the holy Hindu yoga teacher? Did he smoke some of the weeds before the presentation?

    13. MG on Wed, September 26, 2007

Hey Doug if you’re still paying attention, I know people struggle today with attention issues, but let me ask you this simple question, where do you have the authority or ability to claim that no one who does Yoga has ever been harmed by it? That is absurd in the highest order. You cannot know that because it would take omniscience and last time I checked there was One who is omniscient and His name is not Doug Pagitt. I heard John share the gospel, what did you do other than confuse the masses? And Todd, for a guy whose posters jump in and say they are respectful and not rude it seems you’re really quick to call John names.

    14. Leonard on Wed, September 26, 2007

      MG, why are you here?

    15. Peter Hamm on Thu, September 27, 2007

      MG,

When did Todd call JM names? (I forgot, you don’t seem to answer questions, you just seem to practice “hit and run” criticism…)

I still want to know, also, why you are here.
