    What’s Your Passion Bucket?

    Bookmark and Share

So…take a few minutes today to think about this: What is your “passion bucket”? What job or endeavor really makes you feel excited? What do you live for? And…how much of your work right now actually focuses on your “passion bucket”? (If your answer is “not much,” what can you do to change that?)

So… what is YOUR passion bucket?  I’d love to hear!

Recently the Cramer-Krasselt ad agency compiled a "2008 Cultural Dictionary," featuring new words and phrases gathered from magazines, Web sites, blogs, and conversations. Here are a few samples from their list:

Bershon -- the angry/bored/too-cool-to-care look that 12- to 18-year-olds sport in every family photo. (I have a 12-, 14-, and 16-year-old, so I know this look all too well!)

Compunicate -- chatting via Instant Messenger with a co-worker who's in the same room, instead of speaking to him or her in person.

Meatspace -- real life or the physical world, conceived as the opposite of cyberspace or virtual reality.

But here's my favorite. I really want to work this one into my daily vocabulary:

Passion Bucket -- a metaphor for a job or endeavor that can fulfill one's sense of mission and ambition.

Isn't this a great phrase? If you're reading this right now, you're probably involved in ministry in some way, shape, or form. And there's really no other reason for getting into ministry work than passion.

But let's face it -- once you actually land that job in ministry, it's easy for the passion to fade. Sometimes we even forget what our passion is.

My whole job is my passion bucket! (and yes, I do know how blessed I am to say that…) Leading and pastoring worship teams and worship leaders is such a gas, and seeing what we do contribute to people who are turned around into followers of Jesus is fantastic.

Even though my tank feels pretty full these days, I’m really looking forward to the drive to Chicago tomorrow to get all kinds of fresh insight and ideas from the Willow Arts Conference. Don’t wait till your bucket starts to empty. Fill it NOW! Keep it full. Keep finding ways to do that.

I am a dramatist and writer.  I perform 1st person accounts of the women who met Jesus with sort of a Paul Harvey, “the rest of the story….” approach.  Since not one woman wrote her own story as recorded in Scripture, what would that woman say if she told me the story of her life changing encounter with Christ?

It truly becomes the Living Word!  My passion bucket is seeing women “get it”—that the same pain they live in can have the same power of Christ brought to bear on it and their lives can be changed!

As a woman, I obviously minister to many women in this way.  The over-flow of my passion bucket has been seeing how men are so totally affected and changed by seeing the pain of women’s lives demonstrated thru drama when I perform in a church service or to a mixed group!  Thru drama, cultural differences fade and we are brought face to face with the life changing power of Christ!

God is opening up doors for me to go to Uganda with this ministry—I was told by a pastor that the 3rd world women will really “get” the drama because they know the pain of the woman at the well or the woman with the issue of blood because of their culture.

I work full time in medicine—that is my job and livelihood, but the real part of my life—my passion bucket is 1) Drama and writing/performing these accounts 2) Speaking/ministering to the hurting women of the world 3) leading worship in my church

God spoke to my heart a few years ago that I am a writer and dramatist at a time when I was doing neither!  So gradually, the Passion Bucket part of my life has grown.  My dream is for it to be full time, but that is something God will have to do!

I’ve been talking a lot about this idea to my church.  Randy Frazee spoke at a conference and talked about the need for us to find our “compelling vision.”

This resonates a lot with me, and I’ve realized that a significant portion of my compelling vision is being with “the least of these.”  My heart comes fully alive when I’m with the poor.  It is about my love for Christ and his people being expressed in the most complete way that I know.

If you are in the Chicagoland area, I’d love to connect with you and your ministries if you have a similar heart to serve the poor…

My passion bucket is living life’s moments as His servant however that may be. Whether it is serving my husband, sons, the individual who is yet to know Him….. to point others to God’s amazing love and grace. To worship Him in and through all things - the good, bad and even the ugly. The most important relationship any one can ever have is with God. The question every single person must deal with is God…. Jesus. My passion bucket is overflowing because of HIs love… and if I can help one person see Him and know that love even a bit more - I am richer than rich.

I love ministering in the Holy Spirit and allowing people to see the Gifts in Action! God often amazes me with what He does in our ministry! It is awesome to see God heal or to give us a word of knowledge or prophetic word, that we could never have known about someone. Seeing the book of Acts, alive and well today! And God has recently blessed us with being on staff at a church, so not only do we get the vision but God has provided consistent provision. God is always in a Good Mood!

I feel that what I doing now—bringing God’s word, will, and love to the folks I serve—is my “passion bucket”.

Lately it seems as if I have misplaced my “Passion Bucket”.  About four years ago I was excited about ministry and the move of God.  The Lord was doing somes awesome things in my life and in the lives of those around me.  Something has definitely gone south, if you will.

Two years ago I changed jobs.  I went from working outside to working behind a desk.  My eyes were fixed to doing the will of the Lord.  However I got distracted with a spirit of complacency.  I have realized that there is more to life than just a job that pays better wages.   When I am in that place I am fulfilled and complete.  Anyone can get a 9 to 5 and make it through the day, but there is nothing like speaking into the lives of hurting people and giving them the hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

For several months, the Lord has been ministering to me and directing me back to that place when I first heared his voice.  Thank God for His voice.

      What fills my passion bucket?

Finding needs in the world and filling them.  When does my passion bucket overflow?  When that person, who was in need, finds their way to God.

I am passionate about Children’s Ministry!  Creating environments for children, leading leaders in children’s ministry, equipping, encouraging and empowering leaders to bring God’s word to children in a fun and relevant way!  Pouring into others and helping them recognize their potential implanted in them by God!  Dreaming BIG dreams for CM and pushing the envelope when it comes to CM.  It’s fun doing the impossible because achieving the impossible shows the children and leaders just how BIG our God is!  Seeing children come to Christ and seeing life change in their little hearts and minds is what fuels my passion even more!
