Check out this article in the Washington Post. A Virginia pastor who has, over time, turned a church into a cult at worst, fundamentalist legalist congregation at best. And all in the name of Christ...

Another sad, sad tale.  And, yes, it fits the model of being a cult quite well: (1) peoples’ lives being micromanaged including kicking kids out of the house, (2) a, “minister,” who was told by God to pick a 20 year-old virgin bride, despite his age of 55, and (3) money problems where things seem to go towards the leader’s hobbies instead of into the church.  Looks like 1600 out of the former 2000 people were smart enough to have left.

I used to live in that area, and we heard stories about Scott all the time.

Part of me thinks anyone who actually becomes part of what is happening there almost deserves what they get. (I have spoken with a few of them… they almost did deserve what they got.)

Part of me thinks that the man should spend a very long time in a very small room with bars.

I lean more toward the latter.

How sad…...he is right in one aspect, he will give an account and answer for things he has done.  Good Luck Scott!!

Interesting that Scott has a “commitment to living by the literal word of the Bible”  & then refuses to take it literally when faced with the extreme instructions concerning rebellious children.  “...if your kid doesn’t follow your God, kill ‘em. That’s what we do, but not physically.”  So much for taking the Bible literally.  Reckon I’m one of those God haters he talks about in the article.

Interesting….  One of the other articles on MMI this week is about giving going down in churches, while this guy apparently is having no problem with money all because he uses spiritual manipulation and intimidation.  Sad…..

Lesson learned:  God is less picky than some ‘churches’/cults….

oh, and people who twist what what God says are idiots.
