Maybe one way to increase church attendance would be to be more like the Catholic Church, and say if you don’t attend, you’ll go to hell (it’s a mortal sin to miss mass). Then again, I guess it’s things like that which provoked the Protestant Reformation…
By the way, the Catholic Catechism still teaches that missing mass is a mortal sin. One of the caveats is that it is only a mortal sin if they consciously know it and yet still don’t attend; and it seems to me that the Catholic Church protects their members by not teaching it so they won’t know.

I think one must ask “Why?” although I’m pretty sure that most “church” professionals don’t want to hear the reasons.
