Dave continues…
We want to be proactive in dealing with attender’s challenges and concerns. And we view this season as one where our messaging should be encouraging not discouraging.
I am not proposing a “prosperity theology” or “positive thinking” but rather see proactive leaders being intentional at finding very creative ways to advance the gospel, the outreach of their church, and the increase of their ministry internationally.
My challenge to readers today is to examine the language used in all communications be they written, oral, web based and the like.
Are you unintentionally communicating a message of doom and gloom or a message of hope and redemption?
How are YOU framing the economy? How is it working out in your church? Doom and gloom, or hope and redemption?
PS—Dave is the Managing Director at Leadership Network (and my boss).

Dave Travis writes... "I received a few emails this past week from very good, solid church-serving organizations that provide leadership programs for leaders. The emails were advertising specific programs for "dealing with the economic crisis." The messaging speaks of cutting back costs, laying off staff, and bemoaning the hard times. To their credit, these organizations are trying to help church leaders productively deal with these very hard challenges.
I know these are important issues and must be addressed. And I have advised many clients in these matters as well.
But from the ads they appear to approach the issue through the lens of struggle. They approach this economic season as a key obstacle and challenge to the church's mission.
I choose to believe that this is the greatest opportunity for ministry since 2001. The lens of opportunity says that we have a positive message of hope that is the right message for the times.
It is time to seize the day for church leaders..."

This is great thinking… I think there is a process that goes from reality setting in, struggle, vision and then mission. Too many leaders are not moving through the process.

We recently covered the issue of layoffs in our May/June issue of Your Church magazine (http://www.christianitytoday.com/yc/digital/current). We see the current economic downturn as a great opportunity for churches to spread the message of Christ, especially because our culture seems increasingly open to hearing such a message as economic fortunes sag.
That said, churches do need to be mindful of how to manage their resources. For instance, I read a discussion board thread just this morning regarding a recent WCA conference on the economy. I quote:
“...of the churches that were part of
the conference - 45% are presently facing decreasing financial resources up
to minus 75% (wow).”
Our recent church budget survey suggested similar financial pressures.
I hope your post, as well as Dave’s, doesn’t suggest that coverage of these topics, such as ours, perpetuates a “doom-and-gloom” outlook. Rather, as I see it, the opportunities are there, but the challenges are real. Let’s give each other the very best guidance and resources to overcome these challenges so that we’re better strengthened to seize the opportunities.

I understood that just thinking positive about something that you would like to receive does not bring anything to you just like that.
When you are thinking positive about a situation or a person only when you are near to that situation your positive thinking will definitely attracts the situation that you are looking for and you will get it.The more positive you are the more quicker you will receive what you want.

In times of financial crisis, church must offer real hope Businesses and institutions once thought indestructible are now collapsing, and now more than ever, the church and its clergy must step up to the challenge of a changing climate.
