Benny Hinn:  I Would Not Do This For Money; Most Faith Healers are Frauds

Benny Hinn:  I Would Not Do This For Money; Most Faith Healers are Frauds

Benny Hinn gives an interview to Nightline to defend himself.  He talks candidly about faith healers; and also says that he has to many times live a life of misery.

What about the people you've healed that aren't healed?  "These are things I cannot explain".  (His explanation:  "I am not the healer, God is.")  In other words... take it up with God.

Watch the video and let me know what you think...

I thought it was a great interview.  Very telling.  And a very unusual look at a very unusual religious personality.

    What do you think?

Hey, maybe Hinn needs to ignore all his critics and just keep on keeping on!  let’s appy the Perry thread logic…hmmm doesn’t work does it?

If Benny Chinn..(I mean Hinn) has the power of God to heal, then why does he not go to Memphis and clear out the rooms at St. Jude Children’s Hospital?  That would give him all the verification of authentic, Biblical healing but you and I know that he will never do that.  He is a fraud.

I think as long as we live in the Church there will be many questions about Such as this. I personally come from a strong faith background and I to believe in Healing is from and through the Lord, as the many other facets of our faith come from our Lord, salvation, convictions, our abilities that we give our Lord in worship. But It always struck me as a strange thing that Hollywood actors have all the money, planes, false religions and strange practices. and oh we do not even want to talk about the goverment spending and lavish lifestyles and all the waste there is there. I for one will preach the gospel to the best of my calling, do I think some are overboard - sure I do. I lived through the 1980’s scandles in the Church as a young believer just saved and I saw some ungly things done in the name of religion. When was the last time some one interviewed Bro. Jimmy Swaggart or Bro. Jim Baker and asks what they can tell us about things like money and religious power circles.

Keeping on the firing line for Jesus.

I must commend my boy Steven here on the fact that many people are throwing around the names, “false teacher,” false prophet,’ etc yet with no or as I have yet to see any evidence.  I’m not saying that I agree with all of Brother Benny Hinn’s theological beliefs but if you are gonna say he is a false teacher you BETTER pony up a bunch of the modern church leaders that so many celebrate on this site because of the fact that for many social justice is the new fad that everyone is calling the “gospel”

Benny Hinn rode the wave of pentacostal excitement that ran threw the 90’s. So what?!

Also, on the fact that everyone talks about his “healings” not being verified…....he says they were done in the name of Jesus…...same as Luke…..Matthew…..John…...Mark…...Paul…...would you like me to go one?  Just saying.

      Much love

      Shawn,

Good examples of healings in Scripture.  Let me call to your attention some things about these healings that you may not have considered. 1. When the apostles healed people they never announced the healing as a public event nor did they sell tickets to it as a “crusade.”  2. The healing was always total and permanent.  Never did anyone lose their healing because of a lack of faith. 3. Healings were used by God to demonstrate to those who would hear the Gospel that the apostles were truly speaking the Word of God.  The message preached was authorized by the miracle, sign or wonder. 4. The healing was always verified!

As far as false teachers are concerned, my list is as follows:
Jesse Duplantis, Dino Rizzo, Kenneth and Gloria Copeland, Kenneth Hagin, Paula White, Joyce Meyer, Marilyn Hickey, Juanita Bynum, Paul Crouch, Franklin Graham, Franklin Jentzen, Myles Munroe, Mike Murdock, Ed Young, Fred Price, Eddie Long, TD Jakes, Joel Osteen, Rod Parsley, Robert Schuller, Robert Tilton, RW Shambach, Oral Roberts, Larry Huch, Rodney Howard-Browne, Morris Cerullo, Brian McLaren, Rob Bell…just off the top of my head.

Not to mention Roman Catholicism, Seventh Day Adventists, Mormonism, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Christian Science, Scientology, Unitarians, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Sikhism, United Pentecostals, Episcopalians, and most “non-denominational” churches.

If you want evidence, then let me suggest http://www.justinpeters.org
He uses their own video and audio recordings to expose them for what they are.

      Chris,
First off are you really serious?  That many people are all false teachers according to…...you?  That’s funny!  Could you do me a favor?  Evidence?  Where’s Mark Driscoll in that list?  What about Jimmy Swaggart?  How about…..Todd Rhodes?  Wait…....give me a second….....oh yeah!!  Ted haggard…....and….....John Bevere…....but I am sure you will add those to your little list of people that are false teachers because you disagree with them and are probably jealous of what they ARE doing for the cause of Christ.

Wait!!!!  DID I REALLY JUST SAY ALL THOSE PEOPLE WERE DOING SOMETHING FOR JESUS?

Let me just tell you oh high and might ones that when people come to Christ it is NOT because of satan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  satan CANNOT bring ANYONE, nor does he desire for people to come to Christ.  As far as my opinion goes I know personally MANY people who have come to Jesus BECAUSE of what the people you list have done with the gospel!!!!!!!!!!11

Do I agree with everything they believe?  No, but theology is the study of God and we as humans are not going to get it totally right.  Of course you are going to use my last sentence to say something like:

“That’s right Shawn and all of those people have theology from satan himself since he knows scripture better then we do!!”  First, is that ANYWHERE in the Bible…...just because satan quoted a few verses here and there doesn’t mean he’s been studying the Scofield Study Bible!!

Also I am still totally stuck on the fact that no one has given ANY evidence of these people being false teachers!!  Doesn’t the Bible say that you can only call Jesus Lord by the Holy Spirit?

Now to deal with your little list of what healing were in the Bible:

      Point 1:

“When the apostles healed people they never announced the healing as a public event nor did they sell tickets to it as a crusade.”

I would agree with you here but are you telling me that they told EVERY person not to tell others?  Did Jesus tell one dude to go tell his family, “the things that God had done for him.”??  I’m mean what if he was like the editor of the Jerusalem Times and they ran a cover story on him?

      Point 2:

“The healing was always total and permanent.  Never did anyone lose their healing because of a lack of faith”

I would have to disagree with you here since there was that one time Jesus healed that one dude from being blind and Jesus had to do a double take because the guy was only seeing people like blurry tree trunks…....just sayin!

Timeout:  Are we having fun yet, cause I am!!

      Point 3:

“Healings were used by God to demonstrate to those who would hear the Gospel that the apostles were truly speaking the Word of God.  The message preached was authorized by the miracle, sign or wonder”

Is that not what is taking place now?  I personally know a girl that was healed through the ministry of Benny Hinn and it was verified and she is still healed today!  I would call that a miracle, sign, and a wonder!!  What’s even more amazing is that it’s found in the Bible!!  Go figure!

Point 4 (and my personal favorite):

      “The healing was always verified!”

hhhuuummmm…....where?  Just wonderin?  I understand that they are in the Bible but let’s be honest only one doctor is known to have written in the Bible and he was already involved with this “ministry” so that can’t count, so there must be another source for the verification…....so where did you find those sources?

      Just wondering…..

      smile

      Chris,
Really?  This is your reason for Benny Hinn being a false teacher?  You WOULD HAVE to put Jesus in that category because there was that one time he went to the pool area where like 100 lame people were trying to roll into the water and he only healed ONE dude!!!  What the heck!!  What a false teacher!!!

      smile

    10. Christopher G Fontenot on Tue, October 27, 2009

      Shawn,

Someone is deemed a false teacher NOT because I disagree with them but because they preach a gospel that runs contrary to Scripture.  Scripture is the litmus not me.

Just because someone says they are a Christian it does not make them one or if they perform great signs and wonders does not mean they are doing it as power from God.  Let me give you a CLEAR example from Scripture. Acts 8:9-24

I agree with you that people do not come to Christ because of satan.  But Scripture tells us that satan is a deceiver and that he disguises himself as an angel of light. Paul tells us this very thing in 2 Corinthians 11:12-15

False teachers and false prophets come as wolves IN SHEEP’S CLOTHING.  That means they do not walk into the church and announce themselves as agents of satan.  They LOOK like Christians. They ACT like Christians.  They CLAIM to be Christians. But Scripture tells us that they are RAVENOUS wolves.  (Matthew 7:15-23)  Jesus tells us that not everyone who says “Lord, Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven.  Those two words, “Lord, Lord” are not unbelievers, atheists, or members of false religions like Islam because no member of these systems would ever call Jesus “Lord.”  These are people who profess to be Christians. They were deceived in believing that their works done in His name were good enough for eternal life but Jesus tells them that He never knew them and that all their “works” were in iniquity.

You wrote: “As far as my opinion goes I know personally MANY people who have come to Jesus BECAUSE of what the people you list have done with the gospel!!!!!!!!!!11”  If anyone of these people have surrendered to Christ as Lord it is in spite of what they preached and not because of it.  They do not preach the Biblical Gospel message of sin, righteousness, judgment to come along with the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Joel Osteen himself confessed on Larry King Live that he does not preach about sin.  So what gospel does he preach if he doesn’t mention the reason Christ suffered and died?

You are right that as humans we sometimes do not get it right when we study God’s Word but that is why we are called to be discerning and to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to us. (Jude 3-4)

On my first point about healing….What I meant was the apostles did not go throughout the city and announced “We are going to do some healing at such-and-such time so come and get your miracle!”  Something Benny Hinn is famous for.

On my second point you gave an example of Jesus healing a blind “dude” who’s vision wasn’t completely healed at first but you must not have read the rest of the passage because it says clearly that his sight was restored and he saw everything clearly(Mark 8:22-25) so, as I said before, the healings were permanent and total.  I found these as well: Matt 9:27-31; 12:22; 15:30-31; 20:29-34; 21:14; Mark 10:46-52; Luke 7:21; 18:35-43; John 9:1-11 Look them up and you will see that they were all made whole. Unlike the young man in this video.

On the fourth point…the verification is in the Word of God and all the witnesses who saw the healing.  In one case (John 9) the Pharisees had to bring in the blind man’s parents to verify if he was born blind and if the man healed was truly their son.  None of the healings were “back pain” or other ailments that were not visible like Benny Hinn seems to always heal.

Finally, my point on Benny Hinn going to St. Jude’s Hospital was to point out the fact that he never goes to places where he cannot make money and he never “heals” anyone of an ailment that can be medically verified.  If he truly had the same healing power that was given to the apostles then he should have no problem walking into that ward and clearing it of children suffering from cancer.

Preaching prosperity by an act of “sowing your seed in faith” only results in prosperity for those preaching that foolishness.  If that is Gospel truth then these false teachers should be able to go to Darfur or Ethiopia and preach that same message to those poverty stricken people and it be effective.  You see any of the false teachers I listed going to any of these poor countries and sharing that “gospel” to those people?

      Here’s evidence:

-On December 31, 1989, Hinn prophecized that Castro would die in the 1990s.  Here we are in the 21st Century and he’s still ticking in Cuba.

-On April 2, April 20, 2000, and several more times, Hinn prophecized that Jesus would physically appear with him in Kenya.  Nope, didn’t happen.

Now, based on these two pieces of evidence alone, combined with no repentance for what he said, he fails the test of prophet in Deuteronomy 18 and also shows his markings of being a false teacher by standing against Matthew 24:26.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, really.  But, remember, when it comes to prophecy, according to the Bible it’s, “One strike and you’re out.”  Hinn fails it.

      Shawn,

I believe I am the one who originally made a comment about someone coming to Christ because of Satan or the Devil (see page 1 of this forum).  You said “Let me just tell you oh high and might ones that when people come to Christ it is NOT because of satan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

James is a youth leader at our church.  His family is from our town.  His brother was a former Satanist (over 5 years as a follower) who claims to have had an interaction with “Satan or some other demon”.  It was because of that interaction that he came back to Christ.

What I am not saying is that Satan led him to Christ.  There is a difference.  You see, he and Satan didn’t go through the Roman’s Road or pray the Sinner’s Prayer (where is that in the Bible…) together.  This man’s interaction with Satan, or one of his followers, brought him back to Christ. You can say it scared him to Christ.

And your St. Jude’s argument is strong only if Benny Hinn is in this for the money but your argument is very weak if Hinn only goes where God leads him.  Jesus had a mission and He did not go to every place that needed healing.  He even said no at one point (see Mark 1:35-38 in the context of a lot of healing).  The Disciples/Apostles had various missions as well and they did not go to every place that needed healing.

Benny Hinn, if he is legit (which I don’t think he is), would probably claim he has done more in his arenas then at a single hospital.  He would then probably quote the parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus (look at Luke 16:27-31 specifically) and say something to the fact of look at what I have already done, you either believe it or you don’t.

      My two cents.

      all about Christ,

      Chris and CS,
First off you guys really give way to much credit to the devil being so mighty and powerful that the church would allow SO many false teachers and prophets.  Do you really think that the Church is that bad off?  I mean didn’t Jesus DESTROY the works of the devil on the cross?  I believe that the devil is at work but he’s not in good shape and is severely weakened by what Jesus has done and is doing on the earth today…....

Anyway back to topic.  The “prophesies” that Hinn has made are questionable but are you telling me because one person says something stupid he is a false prophet?  I remember when Pastor John Kilpatrick said some of the critics of the Brownsville Revival would die from the pulpit and that didn’t happen.  He repented afterward put he messed up.  Heck Hal Lindsey said Jesus was coming back in 1988, 2001, 2001, 2003…..etc. but that never happened…...

As far as what CS said about a prophet getting only one chance in the Old Testament…....are we now living under the law or grace?  Have you ever said or done something stupid that would have caused you to be stoned in the OT?  I have!!  I guess I am a false teacher and prophet.

Doesn’t scripture say that a false teacher/prophet teaches that Jesus DID NOT come in the flesh, didn’t die for sins, etc.  That is a false teacher/prophet!!  I have heard Hinn and all the others that Chris posted preach…...though some of their theology is out there for me doesn’t mean they are false teachers/prophets.  I have heard these men and women preach about the love of God in Christ.  The forgiveness of sins through the what Christ did on the Cross.  Healing, Blessings, etc.
I’m not saying that some of what Hinn does is right.  There is probably some things he could change.  Heck, there are some things I could change, but he must walk out his salvation just like me.  Do I agree with how he “preforms”?  No, but what’s to say that God hasn’t told him to do it that way?  God told Elijha to walk around naked for 3 years.  Hosea to marry a prostitute.  Joshua to walk around a city and not to speek for 6 days and then on the 7th day walk around it 7 times in total silence and then shout!!  Smith Wigglesworth kicked, punched and slapped people and they were healed.
William J Seymour hardly ever preached in the Azuza revival in the early 1900’s…....I could go on and on with the different things that God has done to get peoples attention.  What people MUST do is not rush to judgement when there is fruit in the life and ministry of another person.  Will we agree?  Probably not.  But in the end most people that go after all these other men and women much like Chris’s list of false teachers/prophets end up being the same people that cower in the corner waiting for Jesus to return while the rest of us are out getting our hands dirty with the hurting and lost people of the world.

I choose to fight and win because Jesus has won, is winning, and will triumph until then end.

      Much love

    14. CS on Tue, October 27, 2009

      Shawn:

Let’s calm down and take this one step at a time.

“First off you guys really give way to much credit to the devil being so mighty and powerful that the church would allow SO many false teachers and prophets.”

I don’t think I’ve mentioned the devil once here.  But since you mentioned him…

“I believe that the devil is at work but hes not in good shape and is severely weakened by what Jesus has done and is doing on the earth today....”

Peter seemed to think he was like a roaring lion trying to devour people, so I’ll stay on guard all the same.

“The prophesies that Hinn has made are questionable but are you telling me because one person says something stupid he is a false prophet?”

According to the Bible in Deuteronomy 18, when someone says, “Thus sayeth the Lord,” and makes a prediction for the future, and if that thing doesn’t come to pass, we are to pay no attention to them henceforth.  God’s qualification for prophecy is 100% accuracy.  So all those people like Hinn, Lindsey, and such would meet the qualifications for being false prophets.

“As far as what CS said about a prophet getting only one chance in the Old Testament....are we now living under the law or grace?  Have you ever said or done something stupid that would have caused you to be stoned in the OT?  I have!!  I guess I am a false teacher and prophet.”

You’re mixing theological topics, which is why you are confused.  One is talking about the qualifications for prophet, the other is for the forgiveness of sins.  Let’s qualify it a bit more.

There are prophets who speak the Word of God in truth today.  This is what the New Testament means when it says that some are to be evangelists, prophets, etc.

In former days, there were prophets who foretold the future.  Those days seem to have passed (Matthew 11:13, Luke 16:16).  But, let’s assume for a moment that there are tellers of the future still today—they would naturally follow the layout for a prophet, which includes inerrancy of foretelling the future.  Which would mean, again, that Hinn fails it.

Now, if a false prophet repents for a false prophecy, he is forgiven for his sins.  But that does not somehow reenable him to continue to prophecy in the name of the Lord.  Kind of like the discussion we had here on how pastors who have engaged in a lifestyle of sin should not remain in the pulpit.

Additionally, Hinn has taught false doctrine (like the physical reappearing of Christ), which would discount him from the role of pastor.  Not to mention all of the other problems including his wealth and false claims of healing.

To summarize, Hinn is bad, and everyone should avoid him.

After having preached to half a billion people, and seen on over 200 tv stations over all of these years, statistically you should be able to prove at least 1 healing - verification including medical records and review by someone not on his staff.  I wonder why this has not happened?
